What's up fellow gamers! Ok maybe I am bit of a wannabe, and don't play as much as I like, but who does not love video games? The newsets system that I have had the pleasure of playing is the Nintendo Switch. Which I find amazing! I still have not played the Ps4, let alone the 5. None of the newer XBox systems either. This is something that does not keep me up at night. Far from it. The reason being, I have found the older games to be very enjoyable, and get the same thrill as someone playing Elden Ring on Ps5. I know that the new systems will blow me away, but in the mean time I am content on what I have. Especially we are really talking about what I set up for my son's.

That's right! I set this up in my son's room over the weekend. I have had the XBox 360, and the PS2 in storage collecting dust. Then of course my Retron that plays NES games I picked up a while back to test out my NES cartridges. You can check out that post here. My oldest has had the Switch since 2 Christmases' ago, and then the DS that actually got me into games again.

The TV has also been sitting around collecting dust as well. I think this is a LCD. IT is so old it still has a AV hookup! Which is actually perfect for my needs, since the PS2, and NES requires this hookup. The only thing missing in the equation to setup my dream Retro station was the time, and motivation. I am very stoked that I finally got around to doing this, as well as my sons!

This stack of PS2, and PS1 game is one of the main motivators to setup the PS2(which plays the Ps1 CD's), and the XBOX. I found these a while back, but thought they were junk.

After setting the PS2 up, I soon discovered that I had some gems!

I was actually surprised to find out this game is fairly rare!

This Street FIghter Alpha is a little rare as well, and I did not know I had it until yesterday when I found it in another games case! I think it's pretty badass. Also not pictured is Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which my son, and I have been obsessed over. Graphics kinda suck, but it is still fun.

We are going to have so much fun!

This XBOX 360 went into storage due to missing the controller attachment. At the time my sons where way to young for games, and I could care less. So it was easy to forget about. Last week I spent 6$, and now it's back in action.

We do not have as many games for this system as the others, but we got some great ones! Also to all my games out there, is the 360 in the same class as the PS3?

A close up of the Retron

And a few of the games I have ;)

Can't forget the Switch! Such a great system. We even can play the old N64, SNES, and Sega games on here. My son has been enjoying the new Pokemon Violet game. Have you been playing this, or Scarlet? Let me know what you think.

Here is my favorite console. The Nintendo DS. I actually came across this, and a lite a few years back with the game New Super Mario Bros, and I fell in love with it! The best part of this DS is it is hacked, and has around 20 games on it. I can have up to 200, which eventually I will get. Do you have any favorite DS titles you can recommend?

So that's the setup. I will add more to it over time. I really want to go through my Step Dads storage, to see if I can find my Genesis, and 32x. Yes I bought the 32x when the price dropped to 19$ lol! I know you can play a lot of these games digitally now. But I love the physical copies so much better. When my son's are older I will eventually get them the newest console out. But I think them playing these old games are good for them. For one to get the fell. Then mainly for them to understand the history, and to see how gaming evolved into what it is now. It really has come a long way since the old days of blowing into carts to get them to work, (Kidding do not do that!) to the games you can now download to your device. Let me know in the comments. Do you prefer a physical copy, or a digital?

Love those old classic games. Excitebike was one of my favorites.
Thanks for sharing the nostalgia!

Nice man. You got some good collectibles there. Hopefully in about 15 years you can add a PS5 to the collection of antique systems.

HAHA, I so probably will be going that route. You'll be talking about PS10, and Ill be like hey you all, I got a PS5, and loving life, ;)

Hey so do you know if the 360 is in the same class as the Ps3?

Ya, they came out around the same time. The Xbox is a bit older tho and the PS3 has a blue ray player.

Very nice retro setup and certainly many of the games of yesteryear are still very enjoyable today, there are gems that have aged very well. I still find it hard to see the 360 or DS as retro haha, it's amazing that so many years have passed since their release 😅.

I agree! The DS is so relevant still today, and I think it will be for some years to come. In fact I think nintendo made a new version of it in 2019? Not sure. And tbh I haven't really played the 360 much yet. I am looking forward to getting to kwit it. Thanks for stopping by!

For those of us who grew up with these jewels, it is a pleasure to have a setup of this style. Too good 10/10.

Dude these are old gems! Play Mortal Kombat & Contra for me if you have these games. It's 10/10 for me!

Did you ever play MK on the Sega when it came out? And doing left, down, left, up a, b, a, at the start up to get blood? LOL good times.

And Contra is on my list to get for the NES, there are so many bad games for that platform, but Contra is a gem, and can be played for hours. Funny thing is you do the same code as MK to get 20 +- lives. Also for the record not sure if that is the exact code. Memory is a little rusty after all these years.

I didn't play it when it first came out, but I remember installing the portable version on my computer and playing it. It was epic, I don't know what year it was, but I'm talking at least 10 years ago.

Contra was definitely a gem. I played and played and played for hours, I don't remember ever getting bored.

Got to love the classics. The last time I played Zelda it was on an emulator and when I got to the last stage the game froze one me. I haven't played it since. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for !LOL.

Offf! That must of sucked. From what I hear not all emulators are created equal. But tbh I could not blame someone going that route. Just an old cart of Zelda goes for 30-40$. I work at a storage, and someone who bought an auctioned until found a sealed second run Zelda, and they had multiple buyers fighting over it, and eventually sold it for 14K. I guess after it gets graded it will sell for 30k. The first run of the sealed Zelda sold at auction for 100K!

Wow dude, this is so amazing, I loved your NES and N3DS XL. Mine is:

  • SNES American Edition
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Nintendo 3DS XL

I'm looking for a Game Boy Classic, and Game Boy Color, in Cuba sometimes you can find consoles and cartridges very cheap but to find something in good conditions is really hard.

Bests,

Kmilo

My bro in law @poyo831 refurbishes the DS's, and GBA. Not sure what he has at the moment, but I know he just got a handful of the 2ds, and 3DS's.

A very nice collection you have there. My 4 and 9-year-old nephews both play Pokemon Violet on the Switch.I had never seen any Pokemon game before watching them play that,I'm pretty impressed by the open-world style of that game.

Having a PS2 is always a great idea, there are thousands of games that can be picked up really cheaply for that system, many of which are still a lot of fun to play today. Living in California it may surprise you to learn that here in the Uk prison system, prisoners are allowed to request a Playstation 2 or original Xbox console in their cell for the price of £25.

Around 10 years ago I spent 5 months in prison for an LSD and MDMA possession charge. I was VERY surprised at the amount of Playstation 2 games there are in a Scottish prison :)

I would play that Nightmare before Christmas title even today, Ive never seen that one before.

The NES collection makes me feel nostalgic, the 8 bit Nes console was the first one I ever play back in the late 80s, that system came with duck hunt and Mario on one cartridge like the one you have in the photograph.

Nice retro post Sir!

Thanks for this comment! What a big contrast of prison's here in America, and in the UK. But then again waiting for some of these games to load on the PS2 can be a punishment within itself, lol! And I have to get an old Cath ray tube tv to play this Duck Hunt game. Luckily I work at a storage, and find those pretty frequently.

I think it´s a good set up, love your Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing Edition and the Xbox 360 as well, I really like your Nintendo 3ds, I have one but it´s not as cute as yours, I really love its design.

Thank you, and I would argue the 3ds is as good as the Switch. The design is just flawless. Perfect for on the go. While the Switch is another home run from Nintendo, I do find myself not wanting to hold it for as long. It def is better to hook up to the TV, IMHO.

nice one! ;)
i forgot to comment on this :)

i still have a dream of creating a retro computer/ consoles mini museum in some of the spare rooms in our old birth house (when it's renovated)
because i still keep every bit of the setups we've had with my brother & sister :)

i just sold my first home computer (Pravetz 8D) which is basically a fat keyboard, connected to a TV and you read and save programs via audio cassettes :)
...and also recycled one very heavy matrix printer, which was probably still working...(it was using a typewriter ink tape to print characters) :)

btw cheers to your new family member & blessings from Bulgaria! :)

I suppose if I ever come across one for cheap I would, only big issue is the Game Cube games are pretty pricey.
