A Weekend Visit To The Paramount Ruler

A Weekend Visit To The Paramount Ruler

Hi Hivians

Wrapping up the weekday activities with some adventurous moments is worth involving. For my last weekend experience, I saw it to be adventurous because the place I visited is historically known to be a place of "dominance", it is the paramount ruler's house of Cross River. Cross River is a first capital state of Nigeria whose capital was "Calabar", currently the capital state. The state has a traditional head known as the "Obong of Calabar." However, there are several chiefs and elders that ensure the customary laws are well guided, their head who is the "Obong of Calabar" is highly respected nationwide.

During the weekend, since I was opportuned to travel to the southern region of Cross River State where the palace is situated, I visited the palace to have a sight of it. The security personnels were on full duty that day I visited because the "Obong" had some visitors who came outside the country for an official assignment. I wasn't permitted to snap the palace due to some security reasons, but I was allowed to take some shots at the gate with the friends I came with.

During my tour around the vicinity, I discovered the palace was built in a highland; from the palace, I was able to sight the Calabar river which is some miles afar off. Historically, the palace was built there so that "Obong" can have a knowledge of who is coming from another state, country or kingdom to Calabar. During the civil war, when soldiers came through the river to the state, the "Obong" was the first to have knowledge of it because from his palace, he knew every immigrant who came into the state through water.

My appointment was rescheduled with the "Obong" because of the foreign visitors who spent some time with him; I visited for the purpose of "tourism". Hopefully, when I meet one-on-one with him, I will be given access to snap every detail in the palace. For now, here are the jpegs I could gather.
Certainly, my weekend was adventurous indeed.
