Most people in the job world fear that AI will takeover their task and they'll be left jobless. I understand where the fear is coming from. AI is more accurate, effective and efficient than humans are in performing similar tasks but when it comes to the task of scientific discovery, I doubt AI will replace humans.

According to this research study I just read, human scientists are still better and more reliable than AI scientists when it comes to the aspect of developing hypotheses and carrying out experiments.

Right now, AI is good at predicting how proteins will interact and AI can solve a very specific problem when it is properly trained for it but that cannot be compared to the height of human curiosity.

AI lacks something very essential in research and experimental tasks and that's the creativity to veer off the predicted path. This is what makes human scientists outperform AI scientists and it'll stay that way for a very long time.

There was a project I once did in college. My professor laid out specific guidelines, but midway through the assignment, I stumbled upon a different angle to solving thr same problem. I decided to just follow that instinct, and it turned that the results I produced was far more interesting than if I’d stuck strictly to the guidelines of my professor.

AI is not capable of doing that yet and I'm thinking maybe it never will. AI relies on training and that limits it. It'll only be as good as the data we feed it.

But I'll be completely honest with everyone, I say Humans are better scientists but I also cannot deny the potential here of AI as well. AI is getting better and better and there's a chance it might surpass humans in very specialized areas like scientific experiments.

But for AI to totally replace us in the field of science, I’m not convinced at all because it will forever lack the human touch.

But let's just say hypothetically that AI finally does get there? Will we the human scientists be ready to step aside for AI to do it all. I'm not sure I would like such a world because there's something special about it being done by humans and we'll lose that if AI replaces us completely in the field of science.
