Plants that are germinated using their stem require a careful idea of how to keep the stems of the plant fresh during harmattans dry, and dusty season when most green plants normally just dry off pending the next rainfall, some plants that have strong systems pick up once the rain starts falling but for fragile plants like sweet potatoes that's usually not the case and we farmers have to find a way to keep the plant alive till rainfall so we can cut and replant it stems.

We have to put in a lot of work to make this possible and it would be wise to do this in a garden close by where we can easily monitor how things are going with the plant so we can provide its required needs to help the plant survive the current condition and remain fresh as though it was in the normal wet season period when plants thrive.

It will be difficult to create an environment that is close to the wet-season weather conditions but we can make something a lot closer to it by providing the most basic things the plant needs to survive this period and grow some branches while the dry season lasts.

Water is the most basic need right now while adding nutrients isn't a common theme with tubers like sweet potatoes and yam so we save ourselves the stress of thinking about what kind of nutrients to apply to these plants.

I have in fact not seen a time when nutrients from fertilizers have been applied to potatoes before, this kind of plant doesn't need fertilizer to reach its potential all the plant needs is good fertile soil, water and a good growth environment to produce at its full potential.

This saves us the stress of what to do to make this plant survive the period since we have less work to do focusing more on keeping the plant alive and not on if the tubers are good enough because that's not the primary reason for cultivation during this period.
