HOMESTEAD GARDEN UPDATE--FIRST PICKINSπ₯π₯πΆοΈπΆοΈ
SO FAR, SO GOOD(pretty muchπ)
After a dismal gardening season last year, and having moved the garden to a completely new place this year, we have harvested our first goodies from the new garden.π₯³π₯³π
*Mmmmm....baby carrots.
We harvested twenty five little carrots so far. They are all gone already, eaten by the family and a few by our sneaky chickens.ππ They taste amazing and I'm extremely glad I planted as many as I did! I would guess that about five or six hundred carrots were planted and as of now it looks like they will all be harvested in a month or so.π€€
HOT AND SWEET HARVEST
The peppers are doing great as well. We harvested eight Hot Hungarian Wax and seven Sweet Banana peppers...but I messed up drying them and they went to the chickens...who didn't like them.ππ
*One of the Hungarian pepper plants with more peppers to replace the ones I messed up.π₯³π₯°(drying them on the solar panels does not workπ)
*Banana pepper plant also helping to correct my drying mistake.(Pay no attention to the weeds in the garden, they will all get dealt with this weekend. BWAH HA HA HAH!!!)
TIME TO BE CORNYππ€£
Yeah, I'm a dad. Can you tell by the bad dad jokes?...But seriously, our heritage sweet corn is small but fertile!π½π½ The tassles have popped!....
And the styles(silks) have shot out of the stalks so I went around and and pollinated the little guys so our little ears of corn can start growing.π
*Crazy how nature works...these little "hairs" will be what makes having ears of corn grow possible.π€©
SUNFLOWER SEEDS ON THE WAY
This year we were able to plant about twenty sunflowers. These are of the mammoth size, and should grow somewhere between fifteen to twenty feet(five to seven meters)!! They are all already about six feet(two meters) tall, so I believe they will get there. We lost a couple to some stink bugs that enjoyed snacking on them...a little diatomaceous soil took care of that issue though.β οΈβ°οΈπ
*One of our beautiful sunflowers, doing her best to reach the sun.π
CHIPMUNKS OR RABBITS?
The garden has suffered a bit of a lose in the greens section. We had visitors that helped themselves to all the Kale, broccoli, cauliflower, and even some carrot tops.π¬π¬ I am going to build a simple scarecrow tonight that I hope will eliminate this issue.
*One of our cauliflower plants growing crazy-like after it's original flower was eaten.π€―π€ͺ
POTATOES A GO-GO
So far growing our potatoes above ground in containers has went really well. I have added more levels twice so far and am going to add one more this weekend. I'm hopeful the roots/potato partsof the plants are doing as well as what I see above ground.π€π€
*This is a test for the potatoes. Each are being grown in a different type of soil to see which does the best.
SOME EXTRA GOODIES
We were alao able to harvest some Lemon Verbana, peppermint, and spearmint. They were all hung to dry...but the chickens apparently can jump higher than I thought.ππ And they robbed us of every bit of it. Luckily those plants are doing great and we will be able to harvest from them several more times.π
*Herbs, before our sneaky ninja chickens stole them.π...the one in the background is kinda of ominous looking... isn't she? Like... what's she plotting?ππ€£

Hey wonderful baby carrots looking really nice....I want to eat them without cooking them.
And you have also grown up chillies as well. These are full ripe and ready to cook them in the chicken.
And the corn π½ is also looking good. In my area the corn is also ripe and people are harvesting them.
Thank you dear for sharing your garden here.
The carrots are delicious raw! And that is my favorite way to eat them. My son and I both love the peppers, even though our chickens do not. But they will taste good together! ππ Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to check out what's going on with us at the homestead, and also for your support! We send our love to you yours and our best wishes as well! π€π€π€
Let me tell you that I eat fried peppers with bread and these taste really delicious. And good to know that guys also like peppers.
And you are welcome dear it's my pleasure to interact with all of you guys.
Hey brother, how have you been? I'm guessing your homestead is working well. A lot of plants or vegetables are waiting for you to be planted. By the way that baby carrots indeed looks delicious. I just wonder why it's that small?
Oh dear friend! How great it is to see you here. Yes, we are all doing well and the homestead is slowly and steadily growing and becoming more complete each week. I'm currently working on our dam, and upon its completion we will be able to farm fish and use it for hydroelectric! How is your family doing? Are your siblings all well, and what of your dear Mom? And the carrots are so small, just because I picked them early. I have too many planted and too small of a spot, so some of them needed to be picked so the others could be big and healthy. We send our love dear brother, and Evan says to tell you hi and that he wishes you the best! π€π€π€π€
That's very good to hear my friend. You are not just enjoying but also living a good life together with your family. I'm so happy for you and about me, I'm doing fine. My mother is fine as well, we started building our house after the typhoon was destroyed.
Say my "hi" to Evan as well, he's a grown-up man already for sure. Anyway, have a nice day always..sending love too.
Im glad to hear you are all doing okay. I wish I could be there to helpwith rebuilding dear brother.π I'll tell evan as soon as i see him. He's been camping.
Glad the garden is generally going well and hope the scarecrow works. And very good advice at the endπ
Thanks mate! I'm hopeful as well that he will work. I actually already have him built now, and standing guard.π....but I haven't taken any pictures yet. I hope all is well for you all over that way. We send our love to you and yours dearest friend.π€π€π€
This is dope. I love your dad joke a lot. I was beaming and smiling all thorough.
The silk from your corn reminded of my childhood days. My siblings and I love plaiting and braiding styles to look like human hair with those silks.... Hahaha.
And every time we saw the silk, we are always hopeful the corn is coming soon, and we'll start enjoying the proceeds.
Thanks for sharing your awesome farm with us. Have fun, dad .. hehehehe
I'm glad you enjoyed my joke! Here's another corny one for you. Why did the grape get the father of the year award?
...
....
Because he was the best at raisin his kids! π€£ππ€£
That's a funny story about your corn silks. I have always thought that they looked like hair, but I never thought about braiding them or doing anything like that with them. But now that you have said that I really want to. π I will swing by your place and see how you are doing. And hopefully you'll swing back by here and we can stay in contact. I love meeting new people here, and I absolutely love your energy. π₯° Send our love and wish you and yours the absolute best! π€π€π€
