#MACROMONDAY - A morning doing bug macros. || Lens: Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO || ENG-ESP || (10 Pics)

avatar

I'm looking to regain the macro skills I had about 15 years ago, so I'm dedicating at least one morning every week to doing this kind of photography.

I'm especially interested in doing bug macros, as I used to love to roam the fields photographing insects and spiders.... These guys are very abundant during the rainy months in my region, so it's easy to find diversity around here.

The problem with taking macro shots of bugs is that almost all the shots require different aperture, ISO and shutter settings, and you even have to use the flash very often but avoid it when the sun is direct.

Settings: f/10.0 || ISO 640 || 1/320s || Flash: -1.3EV

Added to that level of difficulty is the "physical demand" of going into the field and taking these kinds of pictures, which is especially true here in tropical regions... Today's morning (to give an example) was the first without rain since last Thursday, the sun was shining and it was about 32°C at 10 AM (at that time most of the bugs are already active).... Humidity was brutally high and the air could almost be cut with a scissors...

In addition to all of the above, the bugs are almost never in a "nice place within reach of the lens" and it is usually necessary to do things like: crouch, kneel, hunch, hold your breath and twist your chest and neck in grotesquely bizarre ways while enduring mosquito bites on your arms and legs and the occasional blowfly hovering in your ears.

Settings: f/8 || ISO 640 || 1/320s || Flash: -1.0EV

So, doing bug macros from time to time can become a bit like: "Being in a gymnasium for masochists"... Ah... But it's still a lovely thing to take pictures of bugs and especially to look at them afterwards on the PC, being able to enlarge them and see their details.

Settings: f/13 || ISO 640 || 1/320s || Flash: -0.7EV

So these are my macro photos of bugs today... I think I'm still far from having the same skills I once had, but I think I've improved during these last three weeks and I plan to keep on doing it.

TECHNICAL NOTE: All these photos were taken with a Nikon D7000 camera and the Tokina ATX-PRO 100mm f/2.8 d MACRO lens... The processing was done in Adobe Camera Raw and included almost all the desired settings for the images such as: Brightness, contrast, depth, depth, clarity, white balance, sharpening, lens corrections and noise reduction.... The camera's built-in flash was used (when necessary) with a small diffuser consisting of a small piece of white paper, nothing sophisticated by the way (the trick is to capture the images with the camera in vertical position, that avoids some annoying flash flare)... The final adjustments of straightening, cropping and watermarking were done in PhotoScape 3.6.1.

Thank you all very much for stopping by and appreciating... See you soon with more pictures in between!...

This is my trusty old Nikon D7000 with her "occasional boyfriend" Tokina 100mm.... We've been together for over a decade now and it looks like we can go on for quite a while longer.

Those are some seriously beautiful macro shots. so impressive, this kind of shots that I wish to achieve in the future.

I always keep my setting static, never change it during photo hunt. So maybe I should also try to use different setting for each shots, And mostly I am using flash to get the shots.

Thank you very much for stopping by and appreciating @ekavieka friend!.... Go ahead, try, experiment with the settings... You'll see that each photo requires something different to extract the most eloquence possible from it.... That applies to all types of photos, not just macros.... I send many greetings and hugs...

Ha ha ha :))... The fly with glasses!... I casually thought the same thing!... It's a hunting fly and it uses its vision to obtain its sustenance... It must have good eyesight!... A thousand thanks for the appreciation and support!

Has hecho un trabajo excepcional. ¡Enhorabuena!

If this is what the photos look like thanks to the skills you haven't quite recovered, I can't imagine what they would look like if you were that person from 15 years ago. Seriously. I was very impressed with this publication. You did an outstanding job, congratulations!
