Open borders for countries around the world could only mean chaos.

Open borders can only mean chaos.

Unfortunately, humanity has lived within borders from the moment Adam and Eve were created and placed in the Garden of Eden (restriction). Today, the majority of homes have fences built over their plots of land, which despite creating disputes, some are even taken to court for settlements.

My mother taught me that fruits within our compound are ours, while whatever falls beyond the fence is for others, even if the tree is located in our compound. This defines the essence of fencing, which is to create a border for territoriality. An incident occurred some years ago when one of those people that go about picking metals from dunghills barged into our compound due to the small gate that was mistakenly left open. Eventually, I took the man to the police station for trespassing (even though a compromise of leaving the gate open by mistake was already there) on our land.

Borders are boundaries to mark territoriality, and we may have heard the saying that anything free is bound to be abused.

If all countries were to open up their borders and have free passage for everyone to get in or out, it would only mean chaos as both the wanted and unwanted would freely enter the countries of their choice. There would be no entitlement to be responsible for any place of residence, as people would readily leave once they weren't satisfied with their current location. Let's imagine here in Nigeria where there are restrictions on emigration and the nation is lamenting the high rate of professionals trooping out of the country (doctors, IT experts, and others), who would then wait behind. It'll definitely be worse for some and better for other countries.

When there is an open border, an unbalance will ensue such that everyone will opt for the country with ease of living and make more devastating that which is considered less favorable. I am certain that with an open border, many of the black nations will emigrate to their countries of choice. Let me not dwell much on the insecurities that would follow if insurgents and terrorists created new kingdoms, as they would likely chase out those that originally belonged to those settlements.

The government of a nation will most often be overwhelmed with planning for her population because forecasts will be impossible, resulting in hunger and deprivation in some countries of the continent. I mean, everyone likes to live and stay where the system is working, which will eventually overwhelm the available resources in that country of focus.

Part of the disadvantage will be the erratic dissociation of family and friends to new locations, and they may hardly see one another again.

As much as I see the disadvantages of open borders, I won't deny some advantages, which would include the exploration of countries I have only heard of in print or on the internet. Perhaps I could just leave for a country that's far and secluded with few concerns about life. Open borders will also bring about the sharing of different cultures and traditions among other nations. People will learn with ease the technologies of other nations due to the lack of restrictions.

As much as the idea of an open border sounds interesting, I foresee chaos as the liberty to traverse would be abused and countries would be unable to make adequate forecasts of their economies.

Like seriously people will misuse the opportunity especially people here in Africa
I don't know about some other countries but I am certain that some Nigerians won't work or have intention of working but yet they will cross over there to be a liability

Even our president will run away at the slightest opportunity.

People will definitely abuse the opportunity if such a thing occurs. There would be a lot of disadvantages than the advantage as they would jump at the chance, not minding the country they are moving to is suffering. This will turn into chaos especially when visitors are the ones chasing away the occupants of a country.

Good day @jjmusa2004, you make some valid points about the potential consequences of open borders. While it could provide opportunities for exploration, cultural exchange, and learning, it might also lead to chaos, abuse, and difficulties in planning for population and resource management.

I believe the opportunity will be abused which will lead to chaos just as you've said. There are lot of disadvantages in this than the advantages cause majority of us (Nigerians) will never step out foot again in this country if we have the privilege. So the restriction is a good thing for population control

I'm really still standing on the fence when it comes to making the final decision honestly but I think the government doing their job of development well will go a long way

Great post

An opened border will really bring chaos to the world, although it will benefit man in some ways but I perceive the disadvantages will be far greater than the benefits.

Pressure will be much on countries that are considered well to do as every individual would love to go there inorder to have a better life, imagine how over populated places like Dubai, USA , U. K , and so on will be.

God created us to be territorial. We tend to protect our place and our own.

We hope that Nigeria gets better and more opportunities are available.... It will a blessing to be tagged as a developed country.

I really enjoyed reading this piece 😊
