A Journey Through Time | Exploring Parbatipur Railway Station
Parbatipur railway station is known as one of the largest railway junctions in Bangladesh. It is located in Parbatipur Upazila of Dinajpur District in North Bengal, Bangladesh. Parbatipur railway station was opened in 1878. Currently, the station has five platforms. As this station is located in our city, I often travel there.
Commissioned during British rule, this station has further accelerated our communication system with neighboring India, including various parts of the country by rail. Numerous passenger and freight trains pass through this four-line railway junction every day.
At the far end of the station, there is a washing plant where trains can be washed very easily. The spacious washing plant at Parbatipur station is absent from most of the stations in North Bengal. The station has some historic buildings which were built during the British period and are currently under renovation.
Notable trains that run through Parbatipur station include Ekota Express, Rupsha Express, Barendra Express, Titumir Express, Simanta Express, Drutojan Express, Nilsagar Express, Panchagarh Express, Banglabandha Express, Kurigram Express, etc. These trains have made the communication system of Bangladesh more dynamic in Panchagarh, Rajshahi, Khulna, Chilahati, Rangpur, Dhaka, and many other regions of the country.
Parbatipur station is one of the largest railway junctions in the country, so its infrastructural development is very important. At present the development work of the station platform is going on, and it is expected that the station will be converted into a modern station soon.
I went to the signal room of the railway station. The signal room has some of the British period equipment, that was used to control the railway lines. At present, they are in a useless condition. Now modern machines are used to control the railway lines. But the old setup still exists in the signal room.
Parbatipur station is just 3 km from my house. I have many memories of this station. I Had a lot of memories with friends at the end of platform numbers 4-5. When we traveled home we came to this station. There are very few such stations in Bangladesh. Hopefully, this station will be more modern and will help to improve the quality of railway services.
