It’s like having a map to set up work goals. It tells us the direction we want to take. I can always know what I need to do daily through these goals. They make my work meaningful and purposeful. I think that setting goals is very important for success.

When I’m setting goals, the same as imagining the finishing line of a race, I believe in what is possible. The question here is “What do I want to achieve?” This keeps me concentrated and driven.

However, goal setting does not only involve aiming too high but also being reasonable. For example, if today I have never climbed any mountain then tomorrow cannot go climb Mount Everest so it speaks practically on what is possible and what is too ambitious. That’s why I divide big objectives into smaller steps that are more practical achievable ones. In this way, I can monitor how far along my path and celebrate small achievements made on regular basis as well

Learning at the workplace has made me aware of how important it is to align my goals with those of the team and the company. It is like rowing a boat together to a common destination. If everyone is on the same page, then more can be achieved and we can all support each other throughout.

The other thing I have come to realize is recording my goals in writing. It’s like making a promise to one’s self. There is something about seeing my goal written on paper which makes them real and tangible. Moreover, I get more organized and focused when I have them in front of me.

Occasionally things don’t go as planned. That’s alright. The best thing I learnt was being adaptable and changeable whenever necessary. It’s just like diverting from ones’ route if there are road repairs going on somewhere along the way. My goals or timeline might require some adjustment but nevertheless, I consider it progress as long as am pushing forward.

To keep me motivated, one thing I do is envision success. I picture myself hitting my targets and how it will feel. It is like viewing a film trailer of what’s next for me. This way I can keep on fighting especially when things get hard.

However, setting goals involves more than simply achieving them; it also means learning and growing as we go. Thus, for me every goal is an opportunity to stretch myself and acquire new skills. It’s like going up levels in a video game. Each achievement gets me closer to the best version of myself that I can be.

Finally, accountability is something I believe in so much. Sharing my goals with others makes me more responsible for their accomplishment. Just like having someone to cheer you along the way. Whether friend, colleague or mentor it makes all the difference having someone there to support and encourage you

Goals setting at work is crucial for success. It stops me from getting distracted, makes sure I remain motivated and keeps me going towards the broader perspective. Being realistic about what I want, putting them on paper, being ready to change them, picturing the outcomes of my goals in my mind, not fearing also difficult tasks and involving others in assisting can be possible ways to actualize all objectives. Sometimes it’s tough, but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
