Yes Please by Amy Poehler
Where I found it
I was at my favorite used book store. Sometimes I'll look at what they have in the humor section. They keep comics there like Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes stuff, but they also keep stuff by and about comedians. I picked this up for 50 cents.
Plot
This book is a memoire by Amy Poehler.
Favorite part
Apparently Seth Meyers wrote a couple of pages for her. At least I hope that Seth Meyers wrote those 2 pages because they were beautifully heartfelt. He talks about how Amy called in sick when her water broke with her first child and messaged him to give him encouragement about being able to do it without her.
My other favorite part is the birth plan that she includes. I am pretty sure this was not a real birth plan, but I got a good laugh out of it.
Favorite lines
"One of the nurses said, "Hey, it's Hillary Clinton!" and I answered by barfing all over her."
"We had a sexual harassment meeting once and I spent the whole time sitting next to Will Forte drawing penises"
Rating 3/5 stars
This book has it's moments, but there are also prolonged stretches where she talks about how difficult she thinks it is to write. I wasn't sure that I would be able to finish the book at some points. There are other parts that are outrageously funny, but not enough for me to want to read it again. I plan to sell this book back to the used book store where I bought it for less than 50 cents.
I am hoping to share plenty of book reviews. What sort of information do you like to see included in book reviews? I’m hoping to keep them fairly short and sweet. What do you think of my format for this post? Any constructive criticism is appreciated, but use your words. Telling me to make my posts better is not helpful without examples and/or descriptive words.
I hope this post has been helpful and informative. Thanks for reading and thanks for all the upvotes, reblogs, comments and follows.
Lastly, I'm hoping that this book club will be interactive. I would love to hear your comments and considerations if you happen upon a review for something that you've read yourself. I'll try to do the same for you when I stumble onto a book review for something that I've already read.
