Week 220 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Queen of Crows
Wow, we are now on the 220th week of Splinterlands art contest! I am consistently drawing entries since Week 214. This time around, I got 6th place in the contest! ❤️I did not really expect to land a spot because the entries last time were all superb. So, I am happy that I got that notification for Splinterlands.

I am actually experimenting with new art styles aside from making Chibis. I am making chibis for so long so I think a new taste of style is exciting. This time, I am making another art out of chibis.
I am still in the process of finding what art style suits me. Though I am fine with chibis, I am still looking for another art style.
So let's begin!
For week 220, I chose Queen of Crows. I find this character very cool with the witch hat and the crows.
Also, this is my last entry for the year. Too bad it will break the streak but it is okay because taking a break is good!
Sketching the art
In sketching, I just roughly drew the pose that I want for the character. I drew the character as if she is shy hehe! Also, I am not sure about what her facial expression is, so I just put on an upside-down smile, lol.
For the background, I was thinking of crows and feathers. For the original character, it is purple, but this time I want to have a red background.
Line art and flat colors
In this process, I already did the line art as well as colored the character. I used a customized flat brush for the line art and then colored it with the aid of the lasso tool. I picked the colors from the original art using the color-picker tool.
I first colored the witch hat, hair, skin, and clothing. I colored them in separated layers so that later, it is easier to put details and shadows.
For the eyes, it is much of a detail which is why, whenever I do the eyes, it will take at least more than five layers. I am still struggling with the eyes. Notice that I also change the facial expression here. I like it more when the character is smiling.
Shadows and details~
Shadows are meant to make the character look 3D-ish~ So, so I put shadows on areas that are not on the reach of the light source. I put a darker shade of brown on the deeper corners (Whaha, sorry cannot find the perfect words, but you get it).
I also put on highlights, the lighter color of brown. Also, the shine of the triangle on the witch hat. I put some blush and lip color to make it "alive", not like a pale doll.
For the crow skull, I researched some pictures on Google to copy them. I'm not a crow skull artist, lol, so references help!
Final art!
For the final art, I chose the color red as my background. I put highlights using an airbrush and flat brush. I filtered the layer with a glow. I mixed some color yellow on red on the hair, witch hat, and at the back of the character.
At this stage, I do the necessary adjustments. For the crows and feathers, I downloaded the brushes from Clip Studio Asset. I made the crow skull a little bit bigger. I added a bit of glow to the eyes too.
Tadaa~ Queens of Crows!
I really enjoyed making art in another style. Perhaps, I will keep this going until I improve my drawing skills~
