Skyrim | Worth to Play an Old RPG?
Hello, hello!
Skyrim is a game that I can say is one of the all-time favorites of gamers. π I heard a lot of good reviews from my friends and they keep pushing me to play it. Though this game is over 10 years old, people are still talking about it. Wow, this must be a hella addicting game. I was still in school then, and yeah, a poor student can never afford a game like this. Iz this healing the inner child? π I like games that I can play over and over and never get bored of it. So, I gave it a shot! π
Physical or Digital copy?
It is cheaper if I get a digital copy on Steam. I can get it for 40 USD vs 44 USD (including shipping). But then I want the case cover displayed in my room + handheld (Switch). I was also thinking about the health of the battery of my laptop. So, the ending is getting the physical copy. π If ever I need funds, I may as well sell it, haha.
It arrived 3 days later.
Game play
A gloomy and cold scenario greeted me. A lot of dialogue going on between my "friends". I am a prisoner awaiting my fate.
Oh, okay, so my turn to be beheaded. Is it the end of the game already? π Ha! Of course, I will not be dead. I already expect that something will happen to halt this execution. (Spoiler) I remember Lord Eddard's death, and yeah, similar vibe to GOT, don't you think? π
A forking dragon!π§ I knew something big was coming. The beast roared like a maniac. Everyone was gangster until a dragon came. π€£
The dragon raged and destroyed everything. Meanwhile, I followed Hadvar on the keep for cover. Ain't no way I am going to die this early.
Time to loot this area. In this game, you will learn how to sneak places. π Lol, just kidding! I got to loot everything from apparel to potions. For sure I will need this in the long run.
At first, lockpicking was confusing. π I had to turn and turn the pick. It was frustrating when the pick breaks. Arghh, I have to start all over again and I lose one pick. Over time, I got used to it.
My first quest! With Hadvar, we had to run to Riverwood to meet his uncle. The place is foresty~ A lot of trees! How I wished that there was a horse. My thumb is hurting from pushing + holding the right stick. π Along the way, I activated the warrior stone.
Riverwood
Finally arrived at Riverwood. That was a long walk. At the entrance, I hear two people walking about if dragons were real. I don't need to trigger the NPC, they just talk, haha. I found some cabbages on a wooden cart. Hmm, I thought there was a farm nearby that I could harvest more. π₯¬ After completing the quest, I looked around to investigate the houses and people.
Whiterun
I was not prepared for the climate. I was constantly looking for a source of heat to keep me warm. I got confused for a minute as to where is the gate of Whiterun. I saw a campfire and I ended up with bandits. I thought they were friendly, haha. I stole the horse because I was tired of holding the stick forward. I kept running away from them until they lost me.
Finally reached the entrance of the location. I passed by a stable selling a horse for 1000 Gold but was too poor to buy. π I tried to steal the horse and a bounty was on my head. I had to restart the game so as not to be chased by the Whiterun guards.
First Impressions
I instantly got hooked on the storyline. π I love epic fantasy-themed games. My friends are not wrong! The graphics are fantastic. I also saw some modded versions with a higher graphic setting and even the combats. The NPCs are sure talkative haha! A lot of dialogue going on. Might be I read them fast π . It was overwhelming so I had to do my research. I can actually switch the difficulty and survival mode even in between the gameplay. Right now I chose not on survival mode to enjoy the storyline. It is annoying to walk and so the teleport option is a relief.
By the way, I read that it takes 100+ hours of gameplay to finish the main storyline + major side quests. And nearly impossible to beat the game, but doable. AHHHH~ π±
Happy that I bought this game. π Will post more soon!

This game carries the essence of today's Souls RPGs, I don't think I've been following the latest ones very much, but I can say that. I hope they make an interesting Remake of it. Not just high quality textures or mods.
Oh, this is a good idea. It has been more than a decade. Hoping Bethesda will make a second one.

You have just started a great adventure in a great game. It was one of my first games on PS3 and to this day I still love it. I would love to replay it again on PC with some graphical modifications to enhance my experience a bit more. Skyrim's NPCs are a complete meme, so be prepared for more endless dialogue. Totally recommended even in 2023.
Yeah, I see a lot! π Super funny!
OMG! Hahah

I always wanted to play this. My problem is that my PC is not that very powerful.
Yeah, I think it requires at least a gaming aspect. That is why I bought the Switch version so to save my laptop's battery health.

π₯³ That game will suck you in, like a time vacuum. So easy to spend dozens of hours exploring and finding things. Have fun!!
I think the best way to play this game is through the PC just because there a bunch of mods that can extend its life. Personally, I never played the games in years because back 6 or so years ago I went for the Platinum for the game and got major burn out from it.
Yes, better with PC. π I saw some mods on YT. So cool! π
Skyrim is a great game, sadly not my kind of game :( IΒ΄ve tried a lot of times to get into its world but I get tired from it, too bad, but itΒ΄s cool you are able to enjoy it. I think IΒ΄ve got close where you ended in the post. Good luck with your adventure.
Yes, we have different tastes when it comes to games. π Good thing you had a glimpse of it.

Skyrim? That's not an old RPG. Now Pool of Radiance is an old RPG that's worth playing. Or maybe the Ultima Series. Or even the original Baldur's Gate series. Or if you want to stick to Elder Scrolls, Arena or Daggerfall. Skyrim is worth playing too of course, I just don't think it's old enough to be considered "old" yet. But maybe I'm just old.
Yeah, saw Blades too which I think focused on card game. π I heard of Baldur's.π There's so many nice nostalgic games out there to try. π Hey, maybe I'm too young to say this is old, haha! But gamers never get old. π―π

I highly recommend The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Janky, but immersive. And don't call a game from 12 years ago "old." I can feel myself transforming into a dessicated corpse, but still, that's rude!
Feeling old yet? π Yeah, I got hooked with the elder scroll lores for a minute. I read about morrowind. π So much to explore!
