Giving Watercolor Painting Another Try πŸ‘πŸ»

(Edited)

Hello! πŸ’Ž

It has been months since I touched my watercolor materials. The booklet and pans were just sitting collecting dust.

I told myself that this time, I needed to gather up my lazy ass to work on my watercolor skill.

Why did I stop? Because of life priorities. Also, I was frustrated... (Every artist has this stage of frustration). Can't escape it! πŸ˜…

I think I lost touch with traditional art, and I have been doing art via digital art, using a tablet and a pen. And what is more frustrating is, in traditional art, you cannot ctrl+z.πŸ˜† One mistake can change my mood, haha.

I told myself that this time, it would be easy. πŸ˜‡ No aiming for perfection, just enjoy the process.

I thought of picking a simple subject from Pinterest. And so the theme of this painting is breakfast.

I recommend Pinterest for references instead of Google. Its got lots of beautiful pictures.

eggs and toast

I first sketched the subject using a pencil. I just slightly drew and tried not to make it a deep etch to the paper. I am using 300 GSM cold-pressed paper from Seamiart

Another thing that I prefer digital nowadays is because of my shaky hands.

I almost workout every day. And these hands became shaky since then. My hands are so used to digital pen and tablet, and in digital, pressures and stabilization can be modified.

So shoutout to people who are into traditional art.πŸ₯³

But I think if I draw using a pencil/pen every day, my hands will get used to it. 😊

Now, I used a wet-on-wet technique here so that layers of brown will blend.

In watercolor painting, much patience is needed as some techniques require a dry surface before layering. I have a mini fan and a blower for faster results.

The first layer of color is done!

Now I just have to wait for it to dry before applying the second layer. 😊

The second layer

I am happy with the result, to be honest. 😊 I was too hard on myself then. I think I just have to be spontaneous, and whatever happens happens.☺️

I thought of putting more on the lower part of the canvas. So same process and the same patience, hehe. πŸ˜†

Avocado toastπŸ₯‘

Inside of using a black color for the shadows, I used an indigo color. Thinly and somewhat transparent, I put it on the whites of the egg. I intentionally leave some unpainted parts of the egg for the shine. My white pens are still in transit.

Ahh, can't wait for the package to arrive.😁

I used thin brushes for small details. I keep them hydrated so that the tips will pick up the color thinly, and so will layer once the paper is dry.

eggtoast7.jpg

This was supposed to be a salmon toast. But then I picked a saturated orange, haha. And I should bended the lines a little, it is too square-y.πŸ₯²

eggtoast8.jpg

So now I just call this a bacon toast.πŸ˜† I still like it though.

Now they are complete!!!

I am happy with how everything turned out. I am feeling a reconnection of traditional art in me.πŸ₯° And I do hope it will grow more.

Cute food! Embrace your shaky hands, it could become an element of your own unique watercolor style 😊. Although, if your hand becomes more stable, that's OK too. It's good to see you branching out, Jiji ✨️🌱

This is so cute, I love the style too. It's good that you're back with water coloring again. I think this style is more complicated lang. But you are doing fine with it. Iba talaga pag may knowledge na about it, βœ¨βœ¨πŸ’ƒ

Thanks, Ruff! Yes, very different compared to digital. Coz in digital, you can fasten the process. In watercolor, you have to be patient and precise.😁

I really like it. I like it more because you kept the linear intact. It's giving off anime style cooking vibes πŸ˜‹.

How's your back btw πŸ˜‚? Is it hurting? I stopped doing traditional because of this plus I have zero patience for the paint to dry so that I can add an other layer.

Yes, this is the style I am looking for on Pinterest.

My back is okay, haha. Yes, takes a lot of time for watercolor painting.πŸ₯² I use a mini fan and a hair blower to fasten the process.😁 I am starting to like watercolor painting again though, haha.
