We Should All Dream More

I’m not sure if I’ve said it here before, but when I am asked what my favourite part of sleeping is, I always say dreams. I’m always looking forward to it, because I’m constantly amused, intrigued, terrified and what have you. And when I’m asked what about the dreams makes me so interested in it, I speak first of the quantity. Is it just me that has as many as four dreams a night or others have a similar experience.

People look at me weird when I’m asked and I say it, and I wonder, “Doesn’t it happen to you too?” Because it has become something of almost a normalcy for me. And I love it, because you have a Church setting, a house setting, school setting, or maybe even the house-of-a-friend-you-no-longer-talk-to setting.

The next thing I love about dreams, at least mine, is the quality/content. I told my friend once that I almost never want to come out because it’s like seeing a movie. You’re watching certain things happen like you would see it in a movie. Heavy plots and intense storylines. You almost what to grab a bag of popcorn, so you don’t miss a moment.

So, you mean the Tessa in this dream (‘cause it’s definitely not me) went to a party wearing the corporate outfit she was told to wear and finds out that everyone else is in swimsuits instead, and now they’re calling on her to jump in the water? Interesting, lol.

And the truth is, even if it’s a nightmare like maybe the dream isn’t going my way or becoming too intense in a nightmarish fashion, there’s always this consciousness I have within that I’m in a dream and I can tap out at any moment. Like maybe Dream Tessa and Dream Character are having a conversation, and suddenly Dream Character decides to pick up a machete and pursue Dream Tessa, Actual Tessa just taps her bed thrice like a wrestler and she wakes up immediately, lol.

Another reason to find my dreams a delight to be in every night is the whole remembrance thing. You know that thing that happens when you wake up from a really interesting dream and then unless it’s a nightmare, or something really bizarre happens, you’ll try in futility to hold onto it? Mine doesn’t end there.

There have been several times where I thought I forgot a dream but then I remember it months or even years later. As weird as it is to say, I could suddenly remember a dream I had when I was twelve or fourteen years old. One time even eight years old and I would wonder why. It’s not even a dream of significance. Just remembering this happened. End of story.

Someone told me that the dreams you have in the afternoon are the most bizarre, and I think I agree with that. I love sleeping in the afternoon - that’s on the few times I have the time away from school – because the dreams be out of this world. I love how rejuvenated I feel when I nap in the afternoon and somehow, I think it’s more invigorating than sleeping at night. Or maybe it’s because I could wake up sweating in an Air-conditioned room because of how mind-blowing the afternoon dream was.

If it’s not already glaringly obvious, I love and enjoy sleeping. When I have to work or study at my reading table, I have at the back of my mind that the reward of my hard work is my comfortable, well-made bed just a few metres away because I’m sure to have the most blissful dreams.

I think the reason my dreams are so many and just as interesting is because I’m a creative. I’m a story writer by works and more than anything, by heart. So, my mind is constantly buzzing with thoughts and descriptive stories. When your mind is that active and exciting, there’s no way your dreams wouldn’t be. That’s my layman theory, though. But it feels valid. Any way, for those of us that are fans of dreams, I hope you have amazing dreams tonight.

4 dreams a night? That’s 4 episodes of a show.😂😂

My mind is always active but 4 dreams a night, c’mon. Even one dream would leave me looking like I just came out of a battle.😂

I dream as much at night too. But that tapping out something is one I can't relate to. The only time I remember tapping out from a dream was when as things got creepier, I reminded myself in the dream that I was sleeping alone in the room that night and there was no point traumatizing myself. I woke up with that thought on my mind oo😂😂

I love dreaming. A lot.

Guyy, that's literally how it is. I'm like, "Please, this is not what I signed up for," and then I tap myself out from such dream, please.😂😂
