First Poetry of the Year!

I think I'm the sort of person wouldn't try out things that I'd been promising myself to do till I'm presented with the opportunity. I can't remember the last time I tried my hand at poetry. It's something I've always wanted to try and I remembered the times when it came to me quite naturally. Because in the words of William's Wordsworth, "A spontaneous overflow of emotions recollected in tranquillity." I've not been in tranquility of late, neither have I let words flow out of me when the powerful emotions hit.

Thankfully, the First anniversary of The Neoxian City Writing Prompt, gave me the opportunity to do that. I'm not going to go on a self-deprecation spree, but I do admit that I've gone quite rusty but I hope you enjoy this in celebration of the new year and all it holds for us.

The New Year

The new year is a wave,
Impactful yet subtle, strong-willed yet graceful.
Ushering all and sundry into a mirthful dance.
Like nature’s unprecedented romance

As it crashes down with thunderous might.
It prepares us for 365 days, pure and bright.
A ballet of dreams unfold
For all who dare to seize and watch it unfold.

The new year is a beam,
A citadel of light, a luminescent for your dreams.
From the blasting of star works and Twilight’s display.
We are enraptured into a new world set before us in a colourfully reflective array.

The new year is hope,
A chance to write off wrongs enclosed in nature’s celestial envelope.
A herald of possibilities, of dreams and goals.
A chance of self-reflection, taking hold of tomorrow, freeing our souls.

The new year is a gift,
A delightful package unwrapped, melting our hearts as our faces uplift.
It’s joy set in motion for all who won’t just stretch out their hands.
But own their dreams and their future command.

The new year is you and I,
Standing strong, unwavering at the promise of paradise.
And as we grow, it’s undoubted what we’ll achieve together.
But till then let’s hold hands and yet hope this bond does not sever.

Happy New Year, Neoxian City
Let’s be filled with cheer as we pop the confetti.

Okay, that's about it. I hope our hearts keep rejoicing as we accept all the blessings the new year has for us. This particular one is dedicated to The Neoxian City. And with how this turned out, I may yet allow my heart spontaneously overflow into my words. I hope all of us have the best weekend ahead. Happiness, cheer and all.

😂 😂 When you say it like that it sounds somehow. Oya, let me rephrase. It is very special. I just couldn't pinpoint it at the time, but after hearing you recite it, I know better now. It has so much soul and heart. I'm sure you're good at writing love inspired poetry.

The new year does come on us like a wave but one that flows from one year to the next. As you rightfully said - it is a gift which brings days and chances for creating new experiences. It is a wonderful wish that we all grow and achieve together.

Some verses full of optimism and faith in the new time that has quickly arrived to meet us. We will begin a new stage with objectives and purposes for 2024, they are the fuel for endure the harsh routines of life.

Quite thoughtful, each stanza identifies with its own meaning. It makes the reader wonder, what exactly is new year to me? It could be hope, a gift, chaos. It could be anything and also nothing. I guess defining what new year means to each individual is a personal journey towards finding purpose and clarity.
