Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle! GRUND
Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Grund card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Featured Monster: Grund
Grund is a earth splinter card that costs 10 mana. It starts with double strike, learns the trample at level 4 and cripple at level 6. It's a good tanky damage dealer with decent speed. So I think it's a great card to have in your deck. I don't really use it that often because I prefer Unicorn Mustang as my tank but if melee can attack from anywhere then this card is a good addition.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is melee mayhem. This means that melee cards can attack from anywhere. There is also 34 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire or earth splinter.
The summoner I choose to use this time is Wizard of Eastwood. In a match like this, I think that removing 2 armor will make it easier for me to kill the opponent and my cards can be played at their highest level.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Wizard of Eastwood | 3 | Summoner | -2 Armor |
Unicorn Mustang | 8 | 1st | Tank with void |
Grund | 10 | 2nd | Double Strike |
Disintegrator | 7 | 3rd | -1 Melee |
Fungus Fiend | 0 | 4th | Filler melee card |
Venari Knifer | 6 | 5th | Thorns |
Total Mana: | 34 |
My plan is just to have a lineup using a few tanky monsters up in front. Unicorn Mustang is up front with the void ability. This will reduce the magic damage. After that is the rest of my monsters with a thorns monster at the very back for those sneak monsters.
Round 1
At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I have the stronger lineup because of my Unicorn Mustang with the void ability. So it will buy some time for my melee monsters to take out my opponent and my opponent doesn't have that many cards with high speed either. This means that I should attack earlier than him for most of my cards
Round 2
Unicorn Mustang lost half of his health but I did get rid of the taunt monster on my opponent's side. It's a bit unfortunate that my low speed monsters missed but I kind of expected it because of the high speed and flying ability on his Regal.
Round 3
After my high speed monsters killed off his fast flying Regal, I was able to wipe out another card from my opponent. At this point, I think I have this match won because my opponent has three cards with 1 speed and with my cards, I don't think I will miss. Even if they did, I don't think they would miss multiple rounds in a row.
With the speed difference, I did not miss and I won the match without any issues.
Conclusion
The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. The lineup I went for had was able to take out my opponent without any issues. Unicorn Mustang did a great job in this fight and I just went for pure melee damage. Grund did a great job by dealing 6 damage per turn and I was able to make quick work of my opponent's team once his taunt monster died.
The -2 armor from Wizard of Eastwood was great but it negated my opponent's +2 armor. With this, my melee monsters could attack without any worries and it speed up the fight against my opponent. My opponent's team is fairly strong but it couldn't do anything against the void on my Unicorn Mustang. So my setup just countered his. However, it could have been dangerous for me if he had leveled up cards. From what I see, that would allow him to deal more damage per turn and I would have at least lost my Unicorn Mustang. However, I don't think it would have turned the match around for him.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Nice win, I think I should have kept my Wizard of Eastwood, selling for Obsidian hasn't turned out to be a good move for me.
Yea Wizard of Eastwood still has it's uses. I still think Obsidian is still a great card to have and it works out quite well with all the magic monsters in earth
