Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Explosive Weaponry

avatar

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Explosive Weaponry rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Explosive Weaponry and Fog of War. This means that all monsters gain the blast ability and any snipe, sneak, or opportunity monsters lose that skill. There is also 27 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, life, or death splinter.

The summoner I choose to use this time is General Sloan. In a match like this, I think that playing my cards to the highest level will give me an advantage and there are plenty of ranged monsters that can attack from a later position.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
General Sloan4Summoner+1 ranged attack
Imperial Knight71stSelf-Heal and Void Armor
Corsair Bosun102ndReach and Reflection Shield
Soul Fiend03rdFiller
Venari Crystalsmith44thTank Heal
Herbalist25thCleanse
Total Mana:27

My plan is just to have a lineup using Imperial Knight up front. It can heal itself and the void armor will help it live longer against my opponent as I deal damage to my opponent. I have a reflection shield card in the second spot to reduce the damage I take in the 2nd spot. Then I have my filler and damage dealers, one of which has tank heal.

Round 1

At first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think this match can go either way. That Uriel up front has self-heal and the recharge ability will also make it kill off my tank next round. So I will have to rely on my own cards to deal damage and it will be a battle of how fast I can kill Uriel.

Round 2

round 2.png
It was quite dangerous but my Imperial Knight made it out of the first round without dying and I killed a few cards on my opponent's side. Neither I nor my opponent missed any attacks.

Round 3

round 3.png
I was lucky and my Venari Crystalsmith healed before my opponents so I didn't take a massive hit to the rest of my backline. My opponent is down to 2 monsters left and I will win so long as I do not miss.

conclusion.png
Since neither I nor my opponent missed, I was able to finish off the match as I expected. I was a bit surprised to see my luck in hitting my opponent because of his flying ability.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. The lineup I went for had Imperial Knight tank hits while the rest of my lineup dealt damage. I was lucky enough to not miss at all and that is rare because my opponent had a flying tank. Reflection Shield definitely helped me quite a bit in reducing the damage that I take from blast and it was a major reason why my backline could continue to deal so much damage. General Sloan was a good pick for a summoner as it added an extra 2 damage per turn. The only downside of my opponent's lineup was the Celestial Harpy in the middle. Fog of war removes opportunity so I feel that my opponent could have won if he used a ranged monster instead but looking at the name, I feel that I am fighting a bot.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
