Splinterlands Engagement Challenge: Support Articles on Free-To-Play Account
Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge that can be found in this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to learn about the game. In this week's challenge, we talk about how a free player can still earn rewards.
How to register?
You can register using this link or by hitting the login button at the top right corner and clicking the register tab. As you can see above, all you need is a username, email, and password. You can also set the referer here if you have one.
What can you do after you log in?
After registering, you will get in and see the above screen. What you should take note of is the quests available.
There are three things you can do right now the tutorial, play a match, and unlock the spellbook. The tutorial is a good way to get started learning the game. If you did the tutorial, you would fight battles against real players or bots. One thing to note is that the cards available to you are what the game provides you. You can get more or higher-level cards if another player with a spellbook delegates them to you. You can't own cards as a free-to-play player.
One other thing you can do is join a guild. You can earn merits without a spellbook, but you won't earn any SPS. The brawls are just fights with other guilds after you pick a fray. Every few days, you just submit all your fights and you will get a part of the rewards. However, you are limited in what you can participate in so choose a brawl where you can submit matches. Sometimes the enemy forgets to submit their matches, so you can get some wins even with weak cards.
What's next?
After joining a guild and doing ranked battles for Glint, your next step would be to buy a spellbook. You can only earn chests, league advancement rewards, and merits. You can do far more when you get a spellbook such as tournaments, wild league, owning cards, and much more. You can't earn SPS from ranked battles without a spellbook so you are losing out on some of the gains you could be earning from the battles or brawls that you can take part in.
Conclusion
This challenge was to look into what free-to-play accounts on Splinterland have access to. I learned quite a bit about this as well. I remember Splinterlands mentioning that they added options for these accounts over a month ago, but I never checked it out. This gives players a chance to play the game and test out the various different features. The spellbook changes quite a bit as it makes ranked battles more rewarding as you can earn SPS. I also think that you can't earn any profit because cards are soulbound and gladiator cards can't be sold either.
What do you think about free-to-play accounts in Splinterlands?

Free to play is a great way to attract new players, normal people are quite skeptical about crypto
Yea. It's a good way for people to start out on the game and to see if it appeals to them.
Yeah Splinterlands changed over time a lot, but penalty for using starter cards was necessary.
Yea. Things have changed a lot since I first started. I think modern was the first big change to the game and things have been slowly changing even more. I am not sure if I like them focusing on modes for bots though.
