Lir Deepswimmer and Going the distance ruleset
Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a card named Lir Deepswimmer.
Featured Summoner: Lir Deepswimmer
Lir Deepswimmer is a legendary water summoner card that costs 7 mana. It comes with the ability of +2 armor, return fire, and blind. Leveling up this card will raise the maximum cap on levels that a card can have. This card is fairly expensive as a single BCX of it currently costs $31.67.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is going the distance. This means only ranged monsters can be used. There is also 45 mana available and I am left with fire, water or earth splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Lir Deepswimmer | 7 | Summoner | Return Fire, +2 armor and blind |
War Chaang | 7 | 1st | Melee monster |
Cornealus | 10 | 2nd | Self-heal |
Venari Marksrat | 3 | 3rd | Marytr |
Merdhampir | 4 | 4th | Life Leech |
Swamp Spitter | 7 | 5th | Repair |
Axemaster | 7 | 6th | Double attack |
Total Mana: | 45 |
My plan is just to have my summoner return ranged damage and I went with my only melee/ranged monster up front. Then I have a Cornealus with heal to delay the match even further. After that is my damage dealers and I have life leech and repair to make me live even longer. I am relying on Axemaster to be my highest damage dealer and it should be safe in the back because there aren't many sneak ranged monsters available for my opponent to use.
Round 1
At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I have the stronger lineup due to my summoner. My opponent has a lot of damage so it depends on just how long I can outlast my opponent.
Round 3
I skipped to the third round because that is when both me and my opponent lost our tank. I was taking a large beating due to my opponent's high speed but I think I have the advantage now because his Axemaster is up front.
Round 4
With the repair ability and self-heal, I didn't take any damage and I wiped out another 2 monsters on my opponent's side. So with this, the match being my win is only a matter of time. That return fire is doing damage slowly to my opponent even if I am busy trying to stall the fight.
As I expected I won due to my stalling tactics and the rest of my lineup did damage to make up for it. My opponent's repair wasn't enough to turn the match around.
Conclusion
The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. I really like using Lir when I see the Going the Distance ruleset because it turns every attack by my opponent into a counter attack. It's just too bad that I don't have a ranged amplify ability otherwise it would be even stronger. Even without my Lir being leveled up, the abilities it gives towards the Going the Distance ruleset is just way too beneficial to me. I got this card from my untamed pack openings but I definitely think it's a great counter similar to Mylor. I don't have a Mylor so I can only guess the feelings are about what I had in this fight.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? Do you think Lir is worth buying?
I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play around with cards and rule sets.

With Lir, you had the battle controlled from the onset, it is also a good counter against Zaku.
Your opponent was going to lose regardless of where his Axemaster is placed but it makes no strategic sense to place it in the second position.
Yea, I don't know why he places Axemaster in the 2nd place. I was a bit worried about whether or not Cornealus would live long enough but it worked out with the repair ability from Swamp Spitter.
