[En/Es] Cobra Kai (Season 1) - When the roles are reversed || Cuando se invierten los papeles

One of the things I least expected was the visit of an uncle, who in turn recommended me to watch Cobra Kai when we started talking about series and movies, to the point that that same afternoon we ended up watching some episodes of the first season. Actually before watching the series I was not that interested in the series since I am not a fan of the first Karate Kid movies.... But before watching the series, because this afternoon was only to watch the first season of Cobra Kai because of how the first episodes are developed, today I want to give you my opinion about this series, the things I like the most and other things, so today we will talk about the first season of Cobra Kai.
What became of Johnny Lawrence's life after the events of Karate Kid? This is what the first episode of the series asks us and in this case we see Lawrence with a very routine and disorderly life, even at the work level, which is very different from his rival in that fight he lost, Daniel LaRusso. Already at this point we see him as someone bitter, that the last thing he would like for this moment is to live with other people apparently, because since the last time we saw him things have gone bad for him, his only son, Robby, would be very distant from him and even partly from his mother, because of the little attention he receives in reality, he is already shown as a rebel everywhere. But a small twist would come after Lawrence was fired for doing his jobs badly, that same night he coincides with his neighbor, Miguel Diaz, in a mini-supermarket where coincidentally some kids had also arrived to bother Miguel. Here is just when the expected happens, after a strong struggle between the boys Lawrence intervenes fighting against all those who bothered Miguel and manages to save him... although the police arrived and arrested him of course. I really like how the focus is given in this case to who will be the master in this series, unlike the old Karate Kid movie and even the 2010 movie (starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan), this gives a more personal touch to the series, in fact, each main character is explored in depth in the series and they connect with each other, Miguel has his own story quite apart from Robby but they still have their connection at a certain point in the series, as well as Lawrence and LaRusso, the latter's daughter and even Miguel's friends. As I was saying, as a result of the save Lawrence gave Miguel, he asks him for karate lessons for self-defense, something that Lawrence would deny for a long time even though in the end he even decided to reopen the Cobra Kai dojo even though he only had Miguel there, but little by little with the popularity of karate due to a few incidents provoked by the bullys and Miguel the Cobra Kai dojo would have more youngsters there, that's how under the same principles Lawrence would manage to reposition Cobra Kai in a good place to present at the 2018 All-Valley Karate tournament.
Now, the things I like about this great beginning is that unlike the Karate Kid movie, we see how the villains of that movie turn out to be the main characters here and independently LaRusso is the competition keeping the same ideals of Mr. Miyagi and not only that! Those who are learning karate in Cobra Kai are all boys who actually wanted self-defense, but due to the ideals of the dojo even end up changing their attitude to a more aggressive one, unlike Robby and LaRusso, who from the beginning Robby was someone aggressive, rebellious and by this same impulse is that he decides to learn karate with LaRusso, which in the same way ends up changing his way of being but in this case for the better. We see the bad guys become good guys, the good guys become bad guys and in the end the bad guys win. The series is called Cobra Kai, it focuses on that dojo and in the end they are the ones who win the tournament, but even so there is something wrong that Lawrence himself knows is wrong and even feels bad to have won the tournament even though they won it in the same way that Lawrence had appeared in the same tournament in 1984, Lawrence is not like Kreese and knows it was wrong.
That is what I least expected from this series, they are short chapters but they are enough to enter more in depth to the history of the resurgence of karate in the area, it is great how the protagonists are presented now, it is as I described before, we would have thought by habit that Miguel would be like LaRusso to have the same background of being "bullied" but in this case as he is an apprentice of Cobra Kai things are presented in a very different way. Although this new Cobra Kai is not like the old one, it is clear that Lawrence seems to care more about his apprentices and just those details change everything, it is not the same as the Karate Kid movies. This makes me expect a lot from the next seasons, I just saw one and it left me totally impressed and hype, the end of the first season had everything to be a happy ending of a movie but just for those details that I already mentioned, it is a story that has a lot to follow.
I recommend this series to many, it has short episodes and quite cool, it has its share of dramatic comedy and quite action of course, I'm sure you can like it. Una de las cosas que menos me esperaba era la visita de un tío, que a su vez me recomendó ver Cobra Kai cuando empezamos a hablar de series y películas, al punto que esa misma tarde terminamos viendo algunos episodios de la primera temporada. Realmente antes de ver la serie no me había interesado tanto la serie ya que no soy un fan de las primeras películas de Karate Kid... Ojo, antes de ver la serie, porque esta tarde paso a ser únicamente para ver la primera temporada de Cobra Kai de tanto que había captado mi atención el como se desarrollan los primeros episodios, hoy quiero darles mi opinión acerca de esta serie, las cosas que mas me gustaros y otras cosas mas, por tanto hoy hablaremos de la primera temporada de Cobra Kai.
¿Que fue de la vida de Johnny Lawrence luego de los sucesos de Karate Kid? Es lo que nos plantea el primer episodio de la serie y en este caso vemos a Lawrence con una vida muy rutinaria y desordenada, incluso a nivel laboral cosa que es muy diferente a su rival en aquella pelea que el perdió, Daniel LaRusso. Ya a este punto lo vemos como alguien amargo, que lo ultimo que quisiera para este momento es convivir con otras personas aparentemente, pues desde la ultima vez que lo vimos las cosas han ido mal para el, su único hijo, Robby, estaría muy apartado de el e incluso en parte de su madre, por la poca atención que el recibe en realidad, se muestra desde ya como un rebelde en todos lados. Pero llegaría un giro pequeño luego de que Lawrence fuera despedido por hacer sus trabajos mal, esa misma noche coincide con su vecino, Miguel Diaz, en un minisuper lugar al que casualmente también habían llegado unos chicos a molestar a Miguel. Aquí es justo cuando sucede lo esperado, luego de un fuerte forcejeo entre los muchachos Lawrence interviene pelando contra todos los que molestaban a Miguel y logra salvarlo... a pesar de que llegara la policía y lo detuviera por supuesto. Me gusta mucho como se da enfoque en este caso a quien sera el maestro en esta serie, con diferencia a la vieja película de Karate Kid e incluso la de 2010 (con Jaden Smith y Jackie Chan de protagonistas), esto da un toque mas personal a la serie, que de hecho, cada personaje principal se explora a profundidad en la serie y se conectan entre si, como si cada uno tuviera su propia historia y es que es así, Miguel tiene su propia historia muy aparte de Robby pero aun así tienen su conexión en cierto punto de la serie, al igual que Lawrence y LaRusso, la hija de este ultimo e incluso los amigos de Miguel. Como decía, a raíz de la salvada que le dio Lawrence a Miguel, el le pide lecciones de karate para defensa personal, cosa que Lawrence negaría por mucho tiempo a pesar de que al final decidiera incluso reabrir el dojo de Cobra Kai aun así teniendo tan solo a Miguel allí, pero poco a poco con la popularidad del karate debido a unos cuantos incidentes provocados por los bullys y Miguel el dojo de Cobra Kai tendría a mas jóvenes allí, es así como bajo los mismos principios Lawrence lograría volver a posicionar a Cobra Kai en un buen lugar para presentarse en el torneo de Karate All-Valley 2018.
Ahora bien, las cosas que me gustan de este gran inicio es que a diferencia de la película de Karate Kid, vemos como los villanos de esa película resultan ser los protagonistas aquí y de manera independiente LaRusso es la competencia manteniendo los mismos ideales de el Sr. Miyagi ¡Y no solo eso! Quienes van aprendiendo karate en Cobra Kai son todos muchachos que en realidad querían defensa personal, pero debido a los ideales del dojo terminan incluso cambiando su actitud a una mas agresiva, a diferencia de Robby y LaRusso, que pues desde un principio Robby era alguien agresivo, rebelde y por este mismo impulso es que el decide aprender karate con LaRusso, cosa que de la misma manera le termina cambiando su manera de ser pero en este caso para bien. Vemos a los malos volverse buenos, a los buenos volverse malos y al final a los malos ganar ¿Eso no era lo que queríamos? La serie se llama Cobra Kai, se hace enfoque a ese dojo y al final son ellos quienes ganan el torneo, pero aun así hay algo malo que el mismo Lawrence sabe que esta mal e incluso se siente mal de haber ganado el torneo a pesar de que ellos lo ganaron de la misma manera que Lawrence se había presentado en el mismo torneo en 1984, Lawrence no es como Kreese y sabe que estuvo mal.
Eso es lo que menos me esperaba de esta serie, son capítulos cortos pero que son suficientes para entrar mas a profundidad a la historia del resurgimiento del karate en la zona, es buenisimo como se presentan ahora los protagonistas que pues es como lo describí antes, habríamos pensado por costumbre que Miguel fuera como LaRusso al tener el mismo trasfondo de ser "al que lo bullean" pero en este caso como es aprendiz de Cobra Kai las cosas se presentan de una forma muy diferente. Aunque este nuevo Cobra Kai no es como el viejo, queda claro ya que Lawrence parece preocuparse mas por sus aprendices y tan solo esos detalles cambian todo, no es igual que las películas de Karate Kid. Esto me hace esperar bastante de las próximas temporadas, apenas vi una y me dejo totalmente impresionado y hypeado, el final de la primera temporada tenia todo para ser un final feliz de película pero tan solo por esos detalles que ya mencione, es una historia que tiene mucho por seguir.
Recomiendo esta serie para muchos, tiene episodios cortos y bastante chévere, tienen su parte de comedia dramática y bastante acción por supuesto, estoy seguro que les puede gustar. Estaba viendo la serie hace meses y me gustaba, pero poco a poco la fui dejando de ver hasta que se me olvido retomarla jaja, la verdad me gusta ver a los actores desde esta perspectiva un poco más madura por así decirlo como es el personaje Lawrence, a medida que avanza la serie comienza a tomar más conciencia de las cosas y de encaminar su vida. Vi este post y me acabas de recordar retomarla jaja gracias, me gusto mucho tu review. Saludos.
Pues sí, la serie profundiza más en los personajes y ahora cada acción tiene su consecuencia en otro personaje, se presenta muy bien ese aspecto en la serie y me gusta mucho eso. Yo también voy a retomarla tal vez hoy, porque no he tenido la oportunidad de empezar la segunda temporada, me espera un gran camino jeje. Gracias por comentar
