(ESP-ENG) Un domingo lleno de trofeos!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Yesterday was an atypical day, one of those that may never happen again, or maybe in a few years. It turns out that not one, not two, but three trophies of maximum importance for world sport were at stake. Thinking about which of the three to focus on, I decided to talk a little about all three since tennis is not a sport that is played much in this community. I have to say that I used to be much more of a follower than I am now, I used to get up at dawn to watch the Australian Open or stay up late for the US Open; I miss those days. But even though I don't watch so much the Grand Slams or the whole ATP tour I constantly follow their results.
Early in the morning, the men's final of Wimbledon, the most classic and elegant of all the Grand Slams, took place, a final that was a reedition of last year's, Djokovic vs Alcaraz. We are talking about the 2 and 3 of the world respectively and with a taste of revenge since the Spaniard had won a year ago. Alcaraz is 21 years old, Nole is 37, if you ask me it is a barbarity that the Serbian is still in conditions to be at the top of the table and fight one on one with the youngest players. Yesterday's match was a masterclass of Carlos, if there is someone who is difficult to break is Djokovic by the mind of steel that has but the Murcian did the same, a constant drowning with returns and backhand with a relentless forehand.
Winning in three straight sets against one of the best players in history is not easy and this tells us that Carlos Alcaraz can perfectly rewrite the history of this sport. He has already won 4 GS, two Wimbledon, one US Open and one Roland Garros, which he also won this year. I do not know if he will be the successor of Rafa Nadal, it is too early to tell, but I do know that his future is promising as long as he keeps his mind and body healthy. He did not win because of the age difference, Djokovic is a guy who has an enviable stamina and physique, he won because he played better and knew how to get the Serbian's weak points and exploit them, Nole was finding it hard to respond to the body shots and that's how it all happened. I expected something closer but it was not like that, Alcaraz dominated from start to finish. He defended his crown without problems and with great authority.
The second trophy was the Euro. Spain could take a second joy, which they achieved against an England team that every time confirms me more and more that they are "cold chests" with the help of their captain. It is impressive how they are losing and in the 60th minute they take off a guy who has more than 400 goals in just over 600 games, this tells us how little confidence they have in Harry Kane. He still hasn't won a trophy in his career, maybe with Bayern he can do it next season, but it will be a complicated task. On the other hand, the champions were far superior yesterday and throughout the Euro, Spain is the team that played the best soccer throughout the tournament with a golden generation of players that I think can continue to give something to talk about.
A tidy team, that takes risks, that as I said has one of the best midfields in the world and that also has Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams who are at a much higher level. Perhaps the only thing I blame this team is the lack of an effective and forceful 9, Morata has never been my favorite despite the fact that he does the job of recovering the ball like few others. I think he does that because of his inability to score goals, being a center forward that should not be his job. Otherwise nothing to say, De La Fuente put together a great team that from the beginning looked like favorites along with Germany. 4 Euros in his possession. From England well, second lost final in a row. They have the players, I think they have a very top squad but the coach Southgate is not good enough. They need to get a disruptive coach who can move forward.
And finally the icing on the cake. Argentina vs. Colombia in a match marred by the nefarious behavior of the crowd. This is a stadium where NFL, Formula 1, international matches are played and nothing has ever happened. It is not the fault of the USA or the organizers, it is the people who do not know how to behave. An hour and a half later the game would start, with Argentina wanting to keep the crown and Colombia, the best team of this Cup, looking for its second. The first half belonged to Colombia, the Cafeteros showed a little more attitude and desire to win the match, but they faced an experienced team with an impressive De Paul. From the second half onwards, things would even out a little more to the point that everything became tight and hard-fought, it was not clear who could win the game.
In the end, I guess the skill was stronger and in extra time, Italy's Capocannoniere scored the title-winning goal for the Albiceleste. 16 America Cups, they surpassed Uruguay, and with that they become the biggest winners in the continent. What Scaloni did with this national team is crazy, two America Cups, a final and a World Cup in four years, crazy numbers. Last game of Angel Di Maria, we are losing a differential of immense quality with a vision of play like very few in the world. Deserved cup, in the end they won with grit, heart, drive and with a Dibu Martinez who was once again the star goalkeeper of the tournament. As you can see, a great Sunday that will remain in the memory of many.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
