Let's take advantage of this three-week mini break to comment on some things that have been moving in F1. This picture you see here will change radically next season and is that the 10 teams almost have their two drivers ready for what will be the year 2025. And I say almost because the people at Sauber/Audi have yet to announce who will accompany Nico Hulkenberg. There are many expectations, speculations and rumors about who could be that second driver; reading a little I came to the conclusion that the list is made up of only three: the Finn Valtteri Bottas, the Brazilian Gabriel Bartoleto (Formula 3 champion and current leader of Formula 2) and the Argentinean and sensation of the moment Franco Colapinto.
Bottas' contract extension for at least one more year is under discussion at the moment. Bottas is not a bad driver, he proved it at Mercedes alongside Hamilton, the issue is that Sauber's car is really poor and limited, hence the fact that he is never even in the mid-table. With the Brazilian what happens is that he would arrive in 2026 when Audi arrives definitively to the competition and we have Colapinto with what he is currently showing. Personally I would go with a fast and young driver, the experience they already have with Hulkenberg, who with Hass is not doing badly despite clear limitations. But I think Mattia Binotto's move will be to give the seat to Bottas one more year to start 2026 with a “promise”.
Hopefully Colapinto will end up convincing and the people around him, Vowles himself, will intercede and help those who have to make the final decision. We will have to wait, I assume, practically nothing. Moving on to other teams we also have confirmations. Ricciardo finally says goodbye to F1 and from Texas we will see Liam Lawson next to Tsunoda. This young man from New Zealand is not new to Formula 1 as he coincidentally replaced Daniel last year when the latter injured his hand. In fact, it was speculated that he would start with RB Racing at the beginning of this season. The Red Bull subsidiary is betting big on youth even though the Japanese driver has already been at the top for 3 years. I think they can give something to talk about next year.
Haas also restructured. Ocon and Oliver Bearman were the chosen ones. The Englishman is also not unfamiliar with high competition as he raced with Ferrari replacing Sainz and launched a great race where he managed to punte and in Baku in what will be his car next year replacing Magnussen. Haas will have to improve a bit more if they want to at least fight in the mid-table. Alpine called Doohan. This Australian for me is an average driver, he has not stood out much to say, second in F3 but no more. I don't see many changes in this French team honestly. And well, I think the biggest surprise was the call of Antonelli with Mercedes. A young driver without much experience, he was in Formula 4 and from there he jumped to F2 given the high level he has; he is currently sixth.
I am very struck by what this team will be like and the level it will have. The young Italian has already asked not to be compared to Hamilton, and rightly so, because of the unnecessary burden that this would place on him. It should be taken into account that Sainz was left out for this young, interesting young man. And to close, the fact that the Spaniard ended up at Williams for me is a major setback, maybe there were no other options and that's what he did, something very similar to what Bottas did when he left Mercedes. I think he can do well, but at a competitive level he will not be even the shadow of what he is today, but well, at least he will continue to sit in the top competition.
The rest all remain the same, Red Bull, McLaren, Aston Martin, Ferrari, but we already talked about them once with the arrival of Hamilton. It will be a season that will be marked by youth but with the experience of a few world champions still. Personally I have high expectations, obviously it will depend on how many improvements the teams can make for the new season but if we are talking about quality I would say that it is possible that we will see much more than now. Now, drivers who should NOT continue? - The only one that comes to my mind is Stroll but we know that because of his last name and who he is, it will be very difficult for him to leave the Aston Martin seat free. But yes, we always talk about who should come, this time I ventured to say who does not deserve to stay in Formula 1. For now, see you in two weeks in Austin, Texas.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
