(ESP-ENG) Slow Horses, una conspiración británica de alto nivel // Slow Horses, a high-level British conspiracy!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
We continue to move away from Netflix and this time we land on Apple TV+, another of the platforms that are getting their act together, as we would say colloquially, when it comes to making good content. So far this year I can say that I have seen a couple of productions from them and the truth is that none of them have disappointed me; Severance and Shining Gilrs are examples of them and it must be said that they could be one of the best series of this 2022, considering everything that is coming for the final part of the year, which is no small thing. Ah, but Slow Horses is also of quality? - friends, I decided to watch it on the recommendation of someone here waiting for another series and it turned out to be a very incredible and well done story.
Slow Horses has several advantages, the first is that its protagonist is none other than Gary Oldman, an Oscar and Golden Globe winner; that an actor of this caliber is the face of a series can definitely not be a bad thing and the second is for the story or plot behind it, an investigative thriller involving London's intelligence services and the conspiracies that exist within. You add this up and it's impossible for the product to be anything but worth watching. We haven't even started talking about this series and I can already tell you that I liked it a lot and I was very satisfied with what I saw but well, let's get back to what we came for and talk a little bit about Slow Horses...
This story revolves around Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) and a group of MI5 agents and spies. The situation is that they are "away" from what has become the Central Intelligence for certain mistakes they made while in service, that is, they are paying a kind of punishment in this place called "The Refuge" and where the leader of this somewhat dysfunctional group is Lamb himself. But do not be fooled by Jackson, he is an extremely brilliant and capable guy but with a somewhat particular way of being, and by particular I mean unbearable and despot. Sure, this place relegates them to administrative positions until a new potential threat comes to light.
This is where River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) comes in, probably the most capable field agent there is in The Refuge and his need to always be on the trail of something, investigating or doing what he does best, being an undercover agent. As I said there is the possibility that a threat is being carried out in the upper echelons of London and although this is a job that does not belong to this group of "incapable and useless" agents, as Lamb always calls them, Cartwright decides to disregard it and starts to move a little on his own. Later they will realize that everything is much deeper than they thought and this is when the real plot begins.
Lately I have to thank a little luck or the eye to choose the series but it is that I have time that I do not see one that is bad or at least not worthy to make a review. Slow Horses is a series that encompasses several things, we have the fact that it is a purely investigative thriller where we see how they are tying ends thanks to the fact that many of those involved are spies, we have the point of criminal suspense to call it a way that also plays an important role because here there are chases, kidnappings and murders and finally and believe it or not, there is a slight touch of comedy that sometimes softens the tension of the environment. But it is not a hilarious comedy, it is one that is basically produced by the way Lamb is and the way he treats people.
The plot is very frenetic, since the beginning of the series you will realize that, there is no respite because things are always happening either in the foreground or background but there is always something that is moving and that makes us never lose interest, it is a series that never gets boring at any time. According to me the strength of this story is the level of conspiracy that can be in these institutions and everything that can be done so that these do not come to light; all the framework, all the threads that are part of this is what makes this series so attractive. The saying that "politics is dirty and is the art of deception" applies here.

What can you expect from this series? - I think the general atmosphere during the six chapters is incredibly tense, as I said before, we are always waiting for something to happen, for a discovery to be made, for someone to be exposed, etc. It's a story that has a lot of conversations, a lot of negotiations and because of this you might think that everything is boring when nothing could be further from the truth. It is a very good espionage drama with its touches of action and detective suspense, not everything has to be explosions or hand-to-hand combat to attract attention and work, this series does the same job and even better I would say.
Talking a bit about the characters, we have to start with Gary Oldman. What can be said about such a veteran actor and that almost all the roles and characters he plays he plays so well? - I don't think there is much to say. This character of Jackson Lamb is one with a very accentuated personality that is marked by traces of his past, by things that he lived and that undoubtedly had repercussions in the current Lamb. A very sober and well-done performance, so much so that many times with a look or a simple silence he is capable of transmitting many more things than he could do with a dialogue. Without any doubt he is the main character of this series and the central axis of the plot.
Another of the protagonists is Kristin Scott Thomas who plays Diana Taverner, the visible face of Central Intelligence. She is one of those characters that generate a lot of intrigue because they are always in existential limbo between doing the right thing but breaking certain rules, you never really know which side they are on and that generates a lot of "angst" to the viewer because you don't know in the end what plot twist they are going to come up with. You know their intentions, you just don't know how they are going to execute them. Good character anyway, it is a counterpart that has its shadows and few lights. And well, we already talked about Jack Lowden, the intrepid and impulsive character that will give this series the movement and action necessary to serve as a complement to all the seriousness and "diplomacy" of the main characters. There is everything in this series and that is much appreciated.
In conclusion, I can tell you that this is one of the best series of the year, at least from my perspective. And the best of all? - Two more seasons are already confirmed, in fact the second one is already recorded and ready to be released. A series that will catch everyone who watches it with its conspiracies, its negotiations, with the tension behind going against the clock and yes, with the plot twists that will be of great importance in the plot.
I give this series an 8.5/10 because it surprised me in a good way, I never expected to like it and get so much attention. Lots of drama, suspense and intrigue, I highly recommend it. You already know it but you can find it on Apple TV+ and it consists of six episodes of no more than fifty minutes each. I leave you the trailer so you can see a little of what it's about.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.

This is the second review of this series that I have read so far and just like you, the other person said the show is very good and recommended it. I haven't seen any series from Apple Tv so this will be a new experience for me. After this I'll probably check out WeCrashed and Shining Girls.
Thanks for sharing this with us. It's always great to discover great shows :)
Shining Girls is an amazing series, I watched it and I also recommend it to you.
Slow Horses is one of those plots that catch you from minute one. Apple TV is doing a very good job with content.
