(ESP-ENG) Esto marcó una época hace 20 años!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Throughout the contemporary history of music there have been moments or eras that have been marked by songs or bands that in principle one would not have expected to happen but in the end happened and it is now, twenty years later, when I wonder how it is possible that these groups hit so much back in the early 2000s and today little or nothing is known about them. Today I want to talk about three groups that even though they are still active today making music I feel that they are not the ones that made it; we all know that this is totally normal, it has happened to the biggest ones but at some point they get up and hit again, something that has not happened here. But well, let's see what I'm talking about and see if you remember these jewels of songs because yes, they are really good.
- The Rasmus - In the Shadows
We start this top with this Finnish band that back in 2003 released this bomb of a song which I would dare to say has been one of their biggest hits to this day. As I already said these people are still very active, in fact last year they were the representatives of their country in the Eurovision Song Contest, something that is incredibly big in Europe but we'll talk about that another time. The common denominator of today is rock in its different currents, here for example it could be gothic as you can clearly see in the video, the aesthetics and perhaps a little in the lyrics of the song. In the shadows, literal translation, tells us that this person has been waiting all his life for his big moment and opportunity and does not want to be afraid or be at the mercy of anyone else, finally wants to get out of those shadows and make his way without anyone telling him anything. As with the rest of the songs that we will see, I remember that this one sounded machismo everywhere, it really was a boom that did not stop playing on MTV for example. Personally it is a song that takes me back to a very cool time, I was never a goth or anything like that but you have to admit that the song is not so bad that you can't listen to it and enjoy it.
- Hoobastank - The Reason
If the song by The Rasmus hit, I don't want to tell you what this song did. If I remember correctly, it was around 2003-2004 when it came out and everything immediately turned to it, and there was no time of the day when we turned on MTV and the video of this song didn't come out. I mention MTV a lot because it was the biggest reference that existed in music in those years, if you went out there you could be sure that you were doing something right. Another alternative rock song whose video is so iconic that I'm sure many people, even if they are not fans of it, have probably seen it at some point. It is a song that talks about being sorry for all the things that a person can do to another, all the situations in which, unintentionally or not, can involve them and that knowing all that this person most wants to change that being the most important reason the person affected. It's when you do something wrong and you don't measure the consequences and in the end it's the other person you love who gets hurt; well, this song is basically a forgiveness. At the time I was a big fan of this band thanks to this song, the truth is that it was an anthem 20 years ago, everybody knew it, everybody sang it, it was the fashionable song. Hoobastank are still active too, they are American and their last album was in 2018 but none with a song like this one, The Reason.
- Nickelback - Far Away
Another great anthem of the time this time in the hands of the Canadians Nickelback, a band that at the time was very big and today still has an important fan base and shows. In this opportunity I had to choose between several because they have good songs in their discography, I chose the one that at the time called my attention because of a theme of a girlfriend I had and this song was a bit the epicenter of all that. Yes, it is a sentimental song where what is expressed is the meaning of pure love. To understand it better it is good to watch the video as it focuses on both sides of the relationship, on the part of the woman who does not want him to leave for fear of losing him and on the part of the man who does everything for her and to return safe and sound to her arms again. Although they are a rock band, they are characterized by this type of songs, a little softer and with quite sensitive and pleasant lyrics. I also was and am a fan of this band, I think they make very good music, the album "All The Right Reasons" is a great proof of that and if you haven't listened to them once I invite you to do it because if you are of this style I'm sure you will like it.
Bonus Track!
- The Calling - Wherever You Will Go
A TRULY great song. It is the song that literally explains the saying "nobody knows what they have until they lose it" and the lyrics and video show it very well. This one is a little older, around 2001, but it applies perfectly. They are not as active as they would like to be, they have split up several times but this song has been one of the great songs of the time, if you lived in those years you will surely remember this song. Not to be missed, it couldn't be left out of the top.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos escuchamos en la próxima!
Well friends that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to all of you, we'll hear you in the next one!

It is true that some groups rise to great heights in their musical life but with the help of another agent or some factors.
