(ESP-ENG) El FC Barcelona, finalmente con el ADN ganador?
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Soccer is a sport where there is often no room for surprise, since the winner is simply the one who scores the most goals; apart from the obvious, the winner is not the one who deserves it the most, who has made the most passes, who has had the most possession, no, none of that, the winner is the one who at the end of the day is the best meshed, who is the most hungry for goals and who has the necessary pieces to make the machine work when required to do so. I say this because it seems that Barcelona changed, something mutated within that team that in my eyes is unrecognizable, not because they are winning games but because of the way they have been doing it lately.
In the last three games they have scored 13 goals for and only two against, something that until a couple of months ago was inconceivable since one of the shortcomings of this team last season was precisely the lack of goals, the gunpowder was very wet and as a result of that they had all the known problems. And for the resurgence it is necessary to have certain pieces, as I said, but it is also vital to bring others to strengthen the operation and friends, in this Barcelona is more than evident what is happening. Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, two Portuguese players who arrived almost in the last days of the transfer market, landed in Catalonia to make this club a real team to be feared.
This doubt came to my mind after watching yesterday's game, a game that was a real madness if you ask me. Barca came with a remarkable boost after their 5-0 victory in the Champions League on Tuesday, I guess the mood in the locker room could not be better, Xavi was renewed until 2025, Balde was also renewed; a lot of good news. Barcelona went out to play against Celta with three changes in their 11 with reference to the team that went out on Tuesday in the Champions League, yesterday they played from the beginning, Romeu, Marcos Alonso and Ferran Torres. What caught my attention is Alonso for Balde, I can understand the need to rotate but the present of Balde is spectacular and Alonso not so much, I would think that was the only "mistake" of Xavi.
What would we see then? - A Barcelona with the ball but without generating absolutely no danger, what's more, they never came close in the first half, not even remotely close to the opponent's goal and that was something that logically worried. With a possession of more than 70% and almost twice as many passes given effectively, the Culés could not do anything, so much so that after 20 minutes they were losing 0-1 thanks to a defensive mistake. Celta, without doing much more, was being more effective than the blaugranas, the match was being well won by the Galicians. This was the end of a first half to forget, in which the visitors, with just one goal, took the lead and were up on the scoreboard.
Just at the start of the second half Xavi would move the team, how did he do it? - By taking out the players I mentioned before, Ronald Araujo for Romeu and Yamal for Alonso. Ten minutes later, Balde would come on and then Raphinha. That eleven that was on the pitch was one of the most offensive I had seen Xavi in a long time but the need was pressing. To give you an idea of how sterile everything was being, the first dangerous arrival was just 65 minutes into the match. With all these players on the pitch, the DNA I am talking about was activated, all the pieces were synchronized and in just 10 minutes they were able to score 3 goals to come back because of course Celta scored 0-2 in the 75th minute to silence the Olympic Stadium of Montjuic.
I honestly thought that Barcelona was going to lose that game, seeing what I saw there was no way they were going to lift that score. But then Joao Felix with a crazy assist for Lewandowski would be responsible for opening the pandora's box, 1-2 and 8 minutes left. Three minutes later the Pole again, but this time thanks to an assist from the other Joao, would tie the match 2-2, a pass to the center of the area from Cancelo to find Robert would be the way Barca would see the light at the end of the tunnel. But it wasn't all over and Gavi with another crazy assist would set up Cancelo for the final 3-2. In just under ten minutes Barcelona did what they could not do in eighty, this for me is synonymous with the state of mind and spirit in which this team is currently in, not just anyone can do that.
And of course, it would have been a different story if Celta, in addition to being on top on the scoreboard, had been on top in everything else, but that was not the case. I repeat, Vigo played better than Barcelona for 80 minutes, they were able to neutralize the team making them play in an uncomfortable and ineffective way but I guess there is a limit to everything. I think that's the difference of the big names, Lewandowski needed just one to score the goal and with it unleashed the team's beast mode to get the other two more goals. That's the difference of the big clubs, we see it with Madrid, Bayern, City, etc., that maybe they are not having the best night or day and with just a single window that opens is enough to turn a game completely around.
So to answer the initial question, I think we are beginning to see the consolidation of a team that has been strengthened with the arrival of a couple of elements that have made this club finish with pieces that were really needed. Joao Felix has proven to be a direct route to goal, he is a player with a very wide vision and exceptional quality, the issue with him is that it seems that he had not clicked in the teams where he was. And Cancelo is the perfect balance between defending and opening up play, as he can block a team's outlets, he can also generate them with leaks and passes to the gaps. Barcelona is showing that it is possible to be considered a candidate for major titles and this is partly due to the awakening and activation of its winning DNA.
