The human being is characterized by being, just sometimes, a little masochistic. I say this because knowing the effect that this anime had on me, I decided to watch the movie and yes, the same sadness of that moment came back to me. This story, I'm not even talking about the anime or movie itself, is one of the most melancholic and sentimental I've ever seen, I'm still impressed by the level of sadness it is capable of producing. The anime is a 10/10 but would the film run with the same success? - Besides the masochism I wanted to see it as a complement to the plot of Menma and his friends, what new things it was capable of bringing and if we would see again that angel who had already left us once.

El ser humano se caracteriza por ser, solo a veces, un poco masoquista. Lo digo porque sabiendo el efecto que tuvo este anime en mi decidí ver la película y si, la misma tristeza de aquel momento me volvió a embargar. Esta historia, ya ni siquiera hablo del anime o película en si, es de las más melancólicas y sentimentales que he visto, todavía me sigue impresionando el nivel de tristeza que es capaz de producir. El anime es un 10/10 pero, ¿el film correría con el mismo éxito? - además del masoquismo quise verlo como un complemento de la trama de Menma y sus amigos, que tantas cosas nueva era capaz de aportar y si volveríamos a ver a aquel ángel que ya nos había dejado una vez.

First of all, if you haven't seen the anime, can you watch this movie? - I think so, the thing is that with the anime you will see much more detail than what you will see here but still the film is perfectly understandable. This is set some time after Menma's final farewell, maybe the following year, the friends went on with their lives but with their dear friend always in their minds and hearts. At the end of the anime Menma leaves some farewell letters to her friends, letters that in this film we know what they said; then as a ritual the 5 friends decided to make them a letter each one with the things they could not tell them both in life and at the time of that farewell.

Lo primero, ¿si no han visto el anime pueden ver esta película? - yo creo que si, el tema es que con el anime van a ver mucho más detalle lo que verán acá pero aún así el film se entiende perfectamente. Esto se ubica un tiempo después de la despedida definitiva de Menma, quizás el año siguiente, los amigos siguieron con sus vidas pero con su querida amiga siempre en sus mentes y corazones. Al final del anime Menma les deja unas cartas de despedidas a sus amigos, cartas que en esta película se sabe que decían; entonces a manera de ritual los 5 amigos decidieron hacerles una carta cada uno con las cosas que no les pudieron decir tanto en vida como en el momento de aquella despedida.

The movie is a mere complement because we will see what has become of them a year later, how much they have changed and how everything that has happened has affected them. It is also a kind of recounting of everything that happens in the anime, very superficial of course, but it serves to refresh the memory a little. Of course, superficial for some things because there are others with which it does dig a little deeper and gives us a bit of context in conversations and events that were omitted in the anime because they were not relevant. Here we will see the moment when each one of them opens up again to write something to Menma and it is very cool because many things that forged those friendship relationships are rescued and it is a very nice reminder.

La película es un mero complemento porque veremos que ha sido de ellos un año después, que tanto han cambiado y cómo les ha afectado todo lo sucedido. También es una especie de recuento de todo lo que pasa en el anime, muy superficial claro está pero que sirve para refrescar un poco la memoria. Claro, superficial para algunas cosas porque hay otras con las que si indaga un poco más y nos da un poco de contexto en conversaciones y hechos que en el anime omitieron porque no iban al caso. Acá veremos el momento en cada uno se vuelve a abrir para escribirle algo a Menma y es muy cool porque se vuelven a rescatar muchas cosas que forjaron esas relaciones de amistad y es un recordatorio muy bonito.

Now, was this sequel necessary? - Yes and no. Yes, because the gesture of each one taking part of their time to write a letter as Menma did in her last moments on the earthly plane and return to that “secret base” to do the ritual seems to me something very thoughtful and that supports the great power of friendship and the affection they have for her. And not because in the end everything remains very much the same, there are no major changes in the characters or in their relationships, we must remember that between 4 of the 5 characters there are some mixed feelings. Anyway, as I said, it makes you sad again and you enjoy it at the same time, I think it is a jewel and worth watching. With this story there will always be more pros than cons.

Ahora, ¿era necesaria esta secuela? - si y no. Si porque el gesto de que cada uno se tome parte de su tiempo para escribir una carta como lo hizo Menma en sus últimos instantes en el plano terrenal y volver a aquella "base secreta" a hacer el ritual me parece algo muy considerado y que sustenta el gran poder de la amistad y el cariño que tienen hacia ella. Y no porque al final todo queda muy igual, no hay cambios de peso en los personajes ni en sus relaciones, hay que recordar que entre 4 de los 5 personajes hay ciertos sentimientos encontrados. De todas maneras y como ya les dije uno se vuelve a poner triste y se disfruta al mismo tiempo, creo que es una joya y vale la pena verla. Con esta historia siempre serán más pro que contras.

Honestly I highly recommend it, I would tell you to watch the anime first but you can watch this film without any problem. Its animation is very well done, very detailed and just like in the anime the soundtrack plays a very important role here. I think these stories are the ones that deserve to be seen. Honestamente se las recomiendo mucho, les diría que primero vean el anime pero de todas formas pueden ver este film sin problemas. Su animación está muy lograda, muy detallista y al igual que en el anime la banda sonora juega un rol muy importante acá. Creo que estas historias son las que merecen ser vistas. Woah. The trailer is really good. I always tend to look into stuff like these,talked about with so much enthusiasm and trust. You really think it's a good anime and it had a good impact on you, I'm going to watch it. Yes, because of your review and I love the trailer,plus I don't really have any anime I'm watching at the moment.

El anime me hizo llorar un montón, la película si me llego, pero no tanto como la serie 😭. Siento que es de esas historias que no podrías ver dos veces, porque te rompe el corazón.

The anime made me cry a lot, the movie did get to me, but not as much as the series 😭. I feel like it's one of those stories that you couldn't watch twice, because it breaks your heart.

There are two of us who cried. The movie is less traumatic but it still reminds you of everything and makes you sad again. I think that if I ever see it again I assure you that I will cry again, it is a very beautiful and sentimental story.

I saw this movie a while ago, but it was really strong, I cried a lot, I tend to cry a lot with some series or movies, but this one was too much for me hahaha, greetings!

The anime itself is very sentimental, with this movie maybe it wasn't the same feeling as with the anime but it still makes you a little sad to go through the whole story again.
