Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town South Africa!

This is Week 139 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge, and the theme for the week is "Work of True Love”. I think this is a great opportunity to play “A Song of Hope”!

My good friend @clairemobey was inspired to write this song during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Cape Town always has a bad homeless problem in the city, but the pandemic made it much worse. Claire was inspired to volunteer at some charities that try to help the homeless, such as “Ladles of Love”, “Souper Troopers” and “Mini-Meltdown”, and during that time she was very moved at how selfless the people who work for these charities are, and how they really do work of true love.

So, Claire was inspired to write a song to dedicate to these charities. She came to me with the finished verses and bridge, and we made the harmonised chorus together! It has become one of the main original songs that Claire and I perform together as our collaboration duo “MobeyDick”, so I feel justified in NOT wearing a “cover hat” today! I am not used to singing the lead part though, and I had to change the key for this performance for Hive Open Mic, on the back seat of my car, during lunch today in my office parking lot! Haha!

Here is our recorded version, after some footage Claire used to introduce how bad the homeless problem was, as well as how unusually cold the winter of 2020 was in Cape Town… the music itself starts at 1:40:

Here is a live video of us singing “A Song of Hope” at the Cottage Club back in May this year. This was actually my first time getting paid to gig mostly original material, and I think Claire’s first time getting paid to sing at all? Thanks to some more gigs, as well as our music posts on HIVE, both Claire and I continue to improve at performing our songs, which has been so rewarding, as it’s a work we (truly) love to do!

¡Hola a todos en Hive y especialmente a la Comunidad Hive Open Mic! Me llamo Jasper y os escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica.

Esta es la Semana 139 del Hive Open Mic Challenge, y el tema de la semana es "Obra del Amor Verdadero". Creo que es una gran oportunidad para tocar "Una canción de esperanza".

Mi buen amigo @clairemobey se inspiró para escribir esta canción durante los primeros días de la pandemia de Covid-19. Ciudad del Cabo siempre tiene un grave problema de personas sin hogar en la ciudad, pero la pandemia lo empeoró mucho más. Claire se animó a trabajar como voluntaria en algunas organizaciones benéficas que intentan ayudar a los sin techo, como "Ladles of Love", "Souper Troopers" y "Mini-Meltdown", y durante ese tiempo se sintió muy conmovida por lo desinteresadas que son las personas que trabajan para estas organizaciones benéficas, y por cómo hacen realmente un trabajo de verdadero amor.

Así que Claire se inspiró para escribir una canción y dedicarla a estas organizaciones benéficas. Vino a verme con las estrofas y el puente terminados, ¡y juntos hicimos el estribillo armonizado! Se ha convertido en una de las principales canciones originales que Claire y yo interpretamos juntas como nuestro dúo de colaboración "MobeyDick", ¡así que me siento justificada por NO llevar hoy un "sombrero de portada"! ¡No estoy acostumbrado a cantar la parte principal, sin embargo, y tuve que cambiar la clave para esta actuación para Hive Open Mic, en el asiento trasero de mi coche, durante el almuerzo de hoy en el estacionamiento de mi oficina! Jajaja.

Aquí está nuestra versión grabada, después de algunas imágenes que Claire utilizó para introducir lo grave que era el problema de las personas sin hogar, así como lo inusualmente frío que fue el invierno de 2020 en Ciudad del Cabo ... la música en sí comienza en 1:40:

Aquí hay un vídeo en directo de nosotros cantando "A Song of Hope" en el Cottage Club en mayo de este año. Esta fue la primera vez que me pagaron por tocar material original, y creo que la primera vez que le pagaron a Claire por cantar... Gracias a algunos conciertos más, así como a nuestras publicaciones musicales en HIVE, tanto Claire como yo seguimos mejorando en la interpretación de nuestras canciones, lo que ha sido muy gratificante, ¡ya que es un trabajo que (de verdad) nos encanta hacer!
