MUSIC: Three Tune Tuesday 126 - 3 Songs on the Theme of “Passion!” (Hive Open Mic Week 185)
Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa!
This is my 61st week in a row contributing to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by @ablaze. It is week 126 overall!
My current pattern for how I will be contributing to TTT is to take the Hive Open Mic challenge Theme of the Week and give suggestions on how I would tackle it!
For those of you who are not familiar, the Hive Open Mic is a weekly challenge on the Hive Open Mic community for anybody who loves to sing. You don’t even need to play an instrument, a backing track or a cappella is also fine as far as I can tell!
Different artists are given the chance to choose a “Theme of the Week” that the posts should be based on. Often it can be difficult for people to think about easy songs that might fit that theme… so let me see if I can be of any assistance to the people who still might not know what to try by the time Tuesday comes around!
All right! Let’s get cracking!
Here is the post inviting everyone to participate in this week’s Hive Open Mic (Week 185):

As you can see, it was the turn of @utymarvel to pick a theme, and this week the theme is “Passion”!
Maybe it’s because of my recent Hive Music Festival submission where I sang “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, and wrote about how because of how it’s written (and also because there are so many cover versions that the singer is unlikely to feel forced to sound exactly like some other artist), I find it to be a song that allows me to find my own voice, my own way of singing it with passion, and my own way to connect to the emotion of the song, which is great!

So I want to focus on that idea – songs that lend themselves to being sung with 100% passion:
My first idea is “Trouble” by Ray Lamontagne. For those of you who don’t know, this man puts 100% passion, and a superb gravelly voice into everything he puts out, but this was the opening track of his album where he tries to prove it from the get-go!
My second idea is “Mother” by John Lennon (as a solo artist after being a member of The Beatles). This song is inspired by the fact that he never knew his father, and then his mother passed away when he was a teenager. At the end of the song he puts 100% into portraying his pain and suffering:
Finally, here is a song off the Bob Dylan Bootleg series called “Blind Willie McTell”. If anybody else had produced this song it would probably be in their top 3 hits at least… but because it’s a Bob Dylan song and he has so many more famous ones, it is doomed to obscurity to almost everyone who isn’t an ardent Bob Dylan fan. Personally, it is one of my favourites, and something my father always asked me to sing when he could tell I was putting more passion into singing it while I was growing into my voice and was still nervous/hesitant about how to sing other covers in my own way… Because of this, it will probably be my choice for what to tackle this week!:
So that's week 126 done and dusted! I hope that gave some people some ideas on how to tackle the Hive Open Mic Challenge this week? Perhaps I’ve even inspired one or two new people to give it a try? Please let me know!
Have not heard any of these songs before but I can see they're good tunes.
Thanks for sharing this lovely piece with us.
Nice collection from yesteryear, first one I did not recognize.
