Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 165 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for the week is “In Love with Nature and Mother Earth"! This theme makes me think of my old friend David (and original boss in the job I currently do in Renewable Energy Development). He was quite a hippie surfer and earth lover. When we went on road trips for work, he would usually play quite repetitive tribal chanting songs. I would always breathe a sigh of relief when he would play Xavier Rudd instead! Some music we could both enjoy!

Unfortunately, David was killed in a botched hi-jacking in 2019. I wrote about it in this post here:

So I will be thinking about David, and missing him, as I sing Xavier Rudd’s song “Follow the Sun”. I think both the song (with its bird calls), and its video (footage of dolphins surfing), fit with the theme perfectly, especially the bridge where it goes:

Bienvenidos a la semana 165 del Hive Open Mic Challenge. ¡El tema de la semana es "Enamorado de la naturaleza y la Madre Tierra"! Este tema me hace pensar en mi viejo amigo David (y jefe original en el trabajo que hago actualmente en Desarrollo de Energía Renovable). amante.
