A safe haven for our tired hearts

Monday- I finished my work early today, intentionally, so I could visit the Basilica Minor del Sto Nino church. I frequented this place during my school days as it's just near our university. But now that I'm working 30 min away from the church, I have only seldom visited.


Before heading out, I made sure to check the church's closing time. Fortunately, they moved the closing from 5pm to 9pm to give students and day shift workers a chance to visit on weekdays.

It's been a while since I visited in the evening. I must say, the vibe is more calming that it is in the morning.


I light 3 candles near the fountain and made 3 specific prayers. I often buy long candles from the church vendors and offer my intention. But for today's visit, I simply want don't want to talk to anyone, not even the vendors so I just lighted the usual candle. Then, went inside the church proper and continued my prayer.

My purpose of visiting the church was really just to seek God's guidance in my life. I've noticed that things have changed since two years ago, more hectic, chaotic, anxious and depressing. So I made a conscious effort to visit the church more often.


Way back in college, this place was where I go to whenever I needed some space- to just breath and walk around. I don't usually listen to masses and just silently say my prayers.

They also have a different room specifically called the prayer room. It's an air conditioned room that has pew chairs and a small altar. Some people visit the room and offer candles and flowers.

This church is where people flock during the Sinulog festival for the 9 days novena. Unfortunately this year, I wasn't able to complete the Novena. Hopefully in the next years, I will.
