More Capable Women (LoH104)
October 19, 2022
I was laughing while reading @joanstewart's concept for today's Ladies of Hive contest, and my expression was like:
50 years ago, what do you remember as a woman -vs- what is happening in the world today? One memory and what the change has been whether positive or negative.
"Are you kidding me? My mother was only a kid."
40 years ago... " my mother was only a teenager, and I wasn't born yet."
30 years ago... "And I was only a kid."
20 years ago... "Oh, this is fine. But wait, I was only 13 years old. What can I remember as a woman? I was only a young lady, lol"
It's not to be discriminatory, but I don't want to go back to 50 years ago when people's clothing, make-up, and hairstyles were so weird. I was able to try out what we call "pamada," or an old kind of hair wax, on my hair, and the smell was unpleasant to my sense of smell. Seeing my parents' old photos when I was younger made me laugh, and made me question the fashion sense of the older generation.
My mother had this so-called "bakya" in our dialect. It's a wooden clog sandal that appeared to be the most popular Philippine footwear during her time and is still available in the market today, albeit in different modern versions. The wooden sandals were so sturdy that they lasted for years. I suppose it can even wound a head.
When my sister and I tried it once, we just laughed at the loud click-clack sounds made when the wooden heels hit the floor. "I won't wear this kind of sandals to church because the priest might include me in his sermon once he hears the annoying loud sounds of wooden heels," I told myself.
But, thinking about it now, any woman wearing shoes with loud heels would demonstrate a sense of womanity. And hearing those loud heels was probably an indication to men that "a lady is coming."lol.
Bakya sandals nowadays have different modern versions, while some retain the traditional designs and way of making.
From bakya and stilettos to modern snickers, boots, and others. There are many different types of shoes available today that are made to the specifications and preferences of the person who will wear them. This isn't the main topic here actually, but I included it because it demonstrates how things and preferences change over time.
Back to the question about 20 years ago, I was only 13 years old by that time and in secondary two. 10 years later, I worked as a business associate in Cebu.
Kitty girl said that I can just go back to 10 years ago. But there is little difference between one and two decades ago, except that the world continues to evolve and technology continues to develop products that can make our lives more comfortable and convenient.
But if there is one positive change that has happened to women nowadays, it is probably the capability of providing needs for their families, especially the wives.

Traditionally, many women stayed at home to care for their children, do chores, cook, serve their husbands, and other responsibilities. The literal definition of a housewife. However nowadays, with the use of technology and skills, one can now provide for their families needs without going to work. Because they can work from home.
Nowadays, many people prefer to work from home because it is more convenient and allows them to spend more time with their families and do other things. I'm seeing an increase in the number of women (particularly mothers) who are blogging, vlogging, and freelancing.
They can make money by blogging about their daily lives and experiences.
They can use their skills for freelancing and choose the type of work they want to do from home. They can even work multiple jobs at the same time.
Social media monetization has also been extremely beneficial, not only to women, but to anyone who understands how to make them work for money.
Many women make money by posting their videos on vlogging platforms like YouTube. Their simple makeup tutorials, DIY videos, cooking videos, travel vlogs, and daily life stories can be converted into money to help them meet their financial obligations.
And would you agree that there are more young millionaires nowadays than before? This is due to advancements in technology, innovation, and various money-making social media platforms. Furthermore, when cryptocurrencies were created, they became a source of income for many people, including in-house parents who invest in them or work on platforms that pay cryptocurrencies, such as Hive.
I once saw a video of a Filipina teacher-blogger who quit her job to become a full-time YouTuber. As she stated, her earnings from vlogging are twice to three times that of her school salary. Aside from that, a teaching job is far more stressful than simply filming her personal life.
Even children and teenagers can now earn hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. Consider this Filipina teen, who is one of the top Filipino Youtubers, earning millions per year. Her brother is a YouTuber who earns the same as she does. Their parents are extremely fortunate. They are no longer required to work.
Many Filipinos, from the poor to the millionaires, have achieved success in this field. They are truly motivating.
Because of technological advancements, there are numerous ways to earn money, even from home. There is no dress code, boss, hectic schedule, or heavy workloads. Housewives do not need to rely on their husbands' salaries because they can work while at home.
It truly has a significant impact on our lives in many ways, not only in this world, but also in our personal lives, broadening our knowledge and perspectives, and helping us in becoming more capable women.
I'm inviting @murakamii and @usagidee to join too..

This made me flash back to how things were done then. Even as young as I was then, I think women were already taking over and caring for their families but when technology came into existence, it has turned things around in the most efficient ways such as blogging and vlogging which allows them earn enough.
True...those who want to retire prefer to have these kinds of jobs at home. Easier and with more time freedom.
That is it. Technology has made things easier these days with these kinds of work from home.

Really impressive, she is very jovial, she has positive vibes, hehe
I can't imagine how the world was about 50 years ago or going back to it 🤣. But i somehow love how women dress and do their things back then. How do i know this? From movies.
There is something classic with the way they dress and carry themselves. Back then it was local attires they wear and it look beautiful on them, however the society look down on then back then compared to today. Not that women are finally given the respect they deserve but things are better than how it used to be.
Haha..but I love vintage cars though...not their hairstyle 😂
There's a name we call women who wore those wooden shoes and makes those sounds.... Lol.
I too wouldn't want to go back to 50 years ago .. hehehe
Hehe..how old are you now?
24 🙈
Now after a good laugh about how you originally thought about the years going back to Mom's time, you will have to wait to see in thirty-forty years to come, when you look back you will laugh at styles or changes encountered.
Enjoyed your fun outlook going forward for this generation.
!PIZZA
Hehe.. When I grow old, then my niece and nephews will laugh at my styles 😂
Take a couple of photographs every year place in folder. Now take them out in 20 years time you will most probably have those giggles too....
Hehe..for sure

Very much inspiring...
Haha I laughed when you talked about yourself and your mom going back to 50years.
Goodness you're right when you said literal definition of a full housewife... luckily the society has advanced now and people are looking for means to figure out themselves.
Exactly...there isn't useless spouse nowadays, coz both can work together.
Yup that's correct!
Ibang iba na talaga ngayon compared 10 years or kahit five years ago. Kitang kita talaga ang difference.
Because of technology and influence of society
I remember wearing a pair of Bakya for a dance presentation or something at school, lol! Those things were fashionable during their time haha. Time evolved and many things have changed indeed. Pretty sure the things we consider fashionable these years might look silly too in the next generations, lol!
And yes, thanks to advancement in technology, there are many ways of creating income these recent decades compared to before.
Haha.. For sure.. At matatawa na lang tyo sa old hitsura natn lol..
Yup, blogging here on Hive is one of those
Haha, true! Saya din balikan kung sakal :D

Haha.. You really need it so that when you grow up, you have something to reminisce about from your albums.
Many Filipinos, from the poor to the millionaires, have achieved success in this field. They are truly motivating.
Yes! That's fantastic!
Indeed
I have been lucky enough to grow up in a country where women, since more than 40 years ago have studied and prepared themselves to join the labor and professional market. But certainly, technology is changing the lives of many, not only women to tell the truth.
By the way, I was a kid when that happened, but the 70s fashion seems super cool to me;)
Hehe.of course the fashion back then was cool.. But weird hehe
This "Bayka" sandals reminds me of some type of sandals I wore as a kid. At that time, it felt so wierd and awkward, mostly because there were not many kids wearing at time no more. But to my mother, she thought I looked so "handsome" in them. They were the kind of shoes they wore when they were kids. Now, there are varieties of sandals, and many of them made to fit the taste of many people.
The world we live is so different from decades ago where you always had to leave your house to make money. Now, we have platforms like YouTube and Tiktok. Although censorship is still a big issue there, people still make money there. That's one thing about Hive I love: there is no censorship here. So, there's issue of your account being suspended for some misunderstanding.
It is so beautiful to see the greatness of technology and how it empowers people to be independent and financially liberated. She left a more stressful job for a more passionate one that's in her own terms and conditions. And what's even better is that she is earning a whole lot more.

Aigooo, 20 years ago, I was a baby pa ate hahaha I don't remember anything talaga... Hmmm, I'll ask mom na lang if may pictures akong nakatabi 20 years ago hahahaah.
But honestly, ung era natin ung pinaka maganda tlga, napaka modern na lahat tapos wala pang gender discrimination when it comes sa pag wowork. Dati kasi meron, sabi nga ng mom ko, if di ata nagpropose si paap sakanya eh uuwi sya sakanila para mag aral ng college.
For sure very cute ka 20 yrs ago haha
ahahahahhaha oo ka cute laging napapalo ate haha
