Hungry Joker: A Manga that deserved to be longer [ENG/ESP]

Hello to all the Hive Con community, for some members I know that I will be the new member of the community, others will know me from others and some will not even remember me because I have been inactive for quite some time due to the university factor, but I'm finally on vacation and I can devote time to something I love and that is talking about anime and manga haha and thanks to this community is a nest for us geeks I can talk quietly about a fairly little known manga without being seen as a freak haha also I will tell you those positive and negative points of the work but I comply to warn you that there will be some spoilers, without further ado today I come to talk about Hungry Joker.

Summary of the story

This story introduces us to a young scientist named Heidi being a prodigy but with lousy social skills and with a past she doesn't remember, and introduces us to her new assistant Chitose Toriiooji, both work investigating the case of a corpse that has a strange glow and the only memory that our protagonist has of his past is a lot of these bodies and a strange black apple and is that we will explain that this mysterious apple is called Eureka and is not the only one that exists (as these objects are related to the history of human progress in terms of science) and that react in a particular way with those who are compatible, we also discover that there is an association of beings who are willing to end humanity called Mavro.

As the chapters go by, we are introduced to 4 other characters who are also compatible with certain Eurekas and we are shown how unique each of these objects can be and the special abilities they can give to their user. We also have the introduction of the villains of this story, the Mavro organization and its members who also possess Eurekas.

Well without more to add let's move on to the positive and negative points of the story.

Positive points

Something that I really liked about this work was its story, and is that the history of science is something that I have always liked and the way in which they take it and show us that those advances that for many seemed so crazy because if they had a little extra help for their creators, besides showing us the capabilities that the eureka have and how they relate to scientific discoveries with which it relates.

Another point that I liked a lot of the story was his type of drawing and is that the drawing of Yūki Tabata is really very good, has a quite particular but very detailed style, which manages to capture both the eccentricities of Heidi, how the different confrontations and critical situations of the manga, but also achieves in the moments in which it should certain moments of comedy.

Negative points

Well now we will talk about those things that I did not like of the work and is that despite being very few since this work I liked a lot, if it has its weak moments. The main point against this work was the haste of its closure, and being a manga of only 24 chapters it had a too abrupt closure, trying to close arcs that took up to 6 chapters to build, so when we see the end of the work we see that we have too many doubts and we do not have the chapters to answer them, and something I regret is that surely this was not the fault of the mangaka but of the magazine in which it was published and not being so profitable they decided to cancel it.

Another point against that due to being a Shōnen sometimes it uses too much the stereotypes of this demography and the protagonist manages to save himself thanks to the power of friendship (yes boys the well known Nakama power). Also sometimes by trying to put in one funny moment or another we lose the seriousness of it.

Conclusion

Hungry Joker is a manga in general terms very good, but unfortunately very short, that being published perhaps in another era would have really had a great success since his idea was quite interesting, but to the sadness of those who take affection for this work we will not know more of it, however I recommend it for those with tastes for science and who want to read a short manga but quite entertaining, without much more to add I will leave this review here and hope to see you soon in some other post.

Hola a toda la comunidad de Hive Con, para algunos miembros se que seré el nuevo de la comunidad, otros me conocerán de otras y algunos ya ni me recordarán porque llevo bastante tiempo inactivo por el factor universidad, pero ya por fin estoy de vacaciones y puedo dedicarle tiempo a algo que me encanta y eso es hablar sobre animes y mangas jaja y gracias a que está comunidad es un nido para nosotros los frikis puedo hablar tranquilamente de un manga bastante poco conocido sin ser visto como un bicho raro jaja además les diré aquellos puntos positivos y negativos de la obra pero cumplo con advertirles que habrán algunos spoilers, sin más que agregar hoy vengo a hablar de Hungry Joker.

Resumen de la historia

Está historia nos presenta a un joven científico llamado Heidi siendo este un prodigio pero con pésimas capacidades sociales y con un pasado que no recuerda, y nos presenta a su nueva asistente Chitose Toriiooji, ambos trabajan investigando el caso de un cadáver que tiene un extraño brillo y que el único recuerdo que nuestro protagonista tiene de su pasado es de montón de estos cuerpos y de una extraña manzana negra y es que se nos explicará que está manzana misteriosa es llamada Eureka y no es el único que existe (ya que estos objetos están relacionados con la historia de los avances de la humanidad en cuanto a ciencia) y que reaccionan de manera particular con aquellos que son compatibles, además descubrimos que existe una asociación de seres que están dispuestos a acabar con la humanidad llamada Mavro.

Con el pasar de los capítulos se nos van presentando otros 4 personajes los cuáles son también compatibles con ciertos Eurekas y nos muestra lo único que cada uno de estos objetos puede ser y las capacidades especiales que pueden darle a su usuario. Además tenemos la introducción de los villanos de esta historia, la organización Mavro y sus miembros los cuales también poseen Eurekas.

Bien sin más que agregar pasemos a los puntos positivos y negativos de la historia

Puntos positivos

Algo que me gustó muchísimo de esta obra fue su historia, y es que la historia de la ciencia es algo que siempre me ha gustado y la forma en la que lo toman y nos muestran que aquellos avances que para muchos parecían tal locos pues si tuvieron un poco de ayuda extra para sus creadores, además de mostrarnos las capacidades que los eureka tienen y como se relacionan con los descubrimientos científicos con los que se relaciona.

Otro punto que me gustó mucho de la historia fue su tipo de dibujo y es que el dibujo de Yūki Tabata es realmente muy bueno, tiene un estilo bastante particular pero muy detallado, que logra plasmar tanto las excentricidades de Heidi, cómo los diferentes enfrentamientos y situaciones críticas del manga, pero también logra en los momentos en los que debe ciertos momentos de comedia.

Puntos negativos

Bien ahora hablaremos de aquellas cosas que no me gustaron de la obra y es que a pesar de ser muy pocas ya que está obra me gustó mucho, si tiene sus momentos flojos. El principal punto en contra de esta obra fue lo apresurado de su cierre, y es que al ser un manga de solo 24 capítulos tuvo un cierre demasiado abrupto, tratando de cerrar arcos que tomaron hasta 6 capítulos en construir, así que cuando vemos el final de la obra observamos que tenemos demasiadas dudas y no tenemos las capítulos para responderlas, y algo que lamento es que seguramente esto no fue culpa del mangaka sino de la revista en la que se publicaba y al no ser tan rentable decidieron cancelarla.

Otro punto en contra que debido a ser un Shōnen a veces utiliza demasiado los estereotipos de esta demografia y el protagonista logra salvarse gracias al poder la amistad (si muchachos el muy conocido Nakama power). Además a veces por intentar meter uno que otro momento gracioso perdemos la seriedad del mismo.

Conclusión

Hungry Joker es un manga en términos generales muy bueno, pero lamentablemente muy corto, que siendo publicado tal vez en otra época hubiese tenido realmente un gran éxito ya que su idea era bastante interesante, pero que para tristeza de aquellos que tomamos cariño a esta obra no sabremos más de ella, sin embargo la recomiendo para aquellos con gustos por la ciencia y que quieren leer un manga corto pero bastante entretenido, sin mucho más que agregar dejaré este review por aquí y espero verlos pronto en algún otro post.
