Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1288)

Hello Everyone!

Another long soak, Dismantling the green house, Beast mode engaged, Packing some kits & So many side quests!

Alright, I am running thirty-six minutes behind schedule this evening... because I once again took a long soak in the tub... and did not get out of it until after sunset. I also had to take care of a few correspondences... and get my nightly espresso brewed... and whoa after the long day that I have had... I sure need it!

Last night I fell asleep around the same time as I have been of late... and although I had a bunch of wacky dreams... I cannot recall a single one of them at this point. At least the rest that I got was good and I did not wake up too many times throughout the evening... which has not always been the case over the last several weeks.

This morning was more or less a 'rinse and repeat' of the last several days... and I immediately went and checked on Esmarelda (the ill hen) and was happy to see that she made it through another night. After feeding her another half of a flour tortilla I wound up repositioning her so that she could reach her water... and then I moved her inside the cabin where it was much cooler.

After all that jazz, I tackled yet another project that I have been avoiding doing... which was to dismantle the little green house that I had over the outdoor tub. The big hassle with that particular project was that I had it tied off to the fence and to several stakes... plus I had the irrigation tubing (that I used to replace its frame) duct taped to some other stakes... which made taking it all apart quite the sticky task.

Once the green house was dealt with I kind of went into 'beast mode' removing stuff from hanging on the dog yard fence... because I finally realized a good bit of my 'general irritability' was being caused by all the mess around me. It is bad enough that I have stuff strewn all over the place... in various stages of washing, drying and packing... but having the dog yard feel so cluttered was really getting to me.

From that point on throughout the rest of the day... I went from one project/task to the next and just tried to do everything that I could in an effort to utilize the good weather while it lasts. I kept catching myself telling myself 'you can do that later' before telling myself more sternly 'you can do that now' which worked most of the time... but whoa it seemed like I just kept bouncing from one 'side quest' to another!

Anyways, I finally packed a 'kitchen kit' down into a single 'contico' box... and although I put way more stuff in it than I will actually use while camping I at least got it packed. The reason that I did it that way is because it would have been a big waste of space... if it only had a single pot with a lid, a frying pan, a kettle, a french press, a coffee peculator and the propane stove itself.

Later in the day I also packed down my main toolkit (also in a contico box) and although it also wound up with a few extra items packed into it... I was glad to finally get it done. I do still have a few tools that will need to go into it... but for now I still need them out so that I can finish dismantling stuff.

At some point I decided to finally tackle getting the solar shack cleaned out... and although I did not quite finish that task... I did make a heck of a lot of progress on it. I even hauled all the buckets that I packed books into out to the shop tent... so that I can now actually move around in the solar shack without it being a total clustercuss of way too much stuff... in way too small of a space!

On a different note, my largest black locust sapling was looking super wilted today... and all I can think of is that when I cut that big root from it (and did not top the tree) that it no longer had a large enough root system to support all that foliage. Long story short, I belatedly realized that I should have topped the tree yesterday (when I moved it) so I went ahead and did it... but am unsure how well it will do with only a few remaining branches.

Well, the next several days are going to be a bit of a 'mad house' around here... because the folks that are going to help me move are coming down early and going to camp out... so I am unsure how much writing I will be able to get done over the next few days. I will do my best to wrap this series of entries up somehow before I start my next adventure (misadventure) but for now I have no idea what that will look like.

Okay, I am all out of words for this entry! I hope that everyone is doing well. Ciao for now.

A sunset through the trees.

Cleaning to solar shack clean will help to keep it long. It's fine for you to have cleared ways for your book as they're also important for knowledge presenting.

🚬🏹🏹Don't know how much time you'll have to check Hive and stuff before the actual move, so whether you get this before or after... Good luck with the move! Hope it all goes as smoothly as possible.

Best of luck to you in the upcoming move! I imagine that is what you have been up to during the last couple of weeks. Hoping that you and your animal family are doing well and adjusting to your new home. That is very exciting! I and the Homesteading community eagerly await your update and hopefully even some images of your new land.
