Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1074)
Hello Everyone!
A sleepy morning, Some super nice weather, Smelly sulfur ointment & Dealing with mites!
Alright, I guess that it is safe to say that I am staying on track with this new routine by yet again sitting down to do the writing before the sun sets which is a good feeling to say the least. Most of the time I think that all I really need in life is the consistency of my routines and an utter lack of having other folks in my life to maintain my happiness.
Considering that sans other humans my life is rather simple and 'stressless' it is hard for me to argue with that particular sentiment... but mainly I think it is my mundane routines that truly foster a sense of well-being. There is just something about doing things at the same time each day (and doing the same things each day) that I truly enjoy... and I doubt that I will ever want to change that.
Anyways, the weather was super nice today and it was almost like summer... but with a nice cool breeze that made it quite pleasant even during the hottest part of the afternoon. In hindsight I probably should have at the very least gone on one or two hikes... but I did not even get close to doing any outdoor activities besides my usual chores.
I dunno what kept me up late last night but I had a heck of a time falling asleep... and when I woke up this morning I did not feel like I had gotten much in the way of actual rest. So after waking just before dawn... I wound up napping on and off for most of the morning afterwards and might have done it the entire day if I had not started feeling guilty over it.
On a different note, my battle with the mites continues and I think that I am making some better headway now that I have begun using the sulfur ointment more liberally. The only real downside to using that stuff is the smell of it but coping with the odor is well worth the benefits that it has when it comes to wiping out the mites.
Lately I have even been looking at getting some 'sulfur lime' dip for treating the dogs but whoa it seems pretty pricey! Once I exhaust my current supply of the sulfur ointment I am going to look into ordering some of the dip... but for now my 'piggy bank' has been 'robbed' enough by pestilence treatments. I keep asking myself something along the lines of 'when will it end' and honestly I never come up with a real answer to that besides: Probably never!
Looking back I really wish that I had taken the 'nuclear' option from the very first signs of the mites and just kept doing everything I could to get rid of them. Even if that meant throwing away my mattress, pillows, linens, rugs and clothes. Instead I only 'treated' the mattress and washed all the linens and such... which yeah has proven to be a totally ineffective approach... well at least in regards to eradicating them because it definitely seemed to help slow them down.
Well, I do not have much else to report for the day so I am going to call this entry good enough and get on with my evening. I hope that everyone is well and has a nice time.

I hope you can get the mites under control. Remember the time when we lived on Mabry, we came home from camping and stood to unlock the door, fleas covered our legs, and the house was infested. I do not remember how many boxes of Borax I used to get rid of them.
