Adventures In Homesteading (Day 41)
Hello Everyone!
Not a super productive day, I ache all over, Piddling with the compost mound, Almost napping & Screw the bills I bought food instead!
Alright, I am running about a half hour behind schedule with my writing routine... but since I do not really have much to write about... I took my sweet time ambling over to the writing tent at the end of this rather lackluster day. Well perhaps 'lackluster' is not the best word to describe it... but since it is the one that keeps popping into my head I figured that I would use it.
Last night I was up a good bit later than I thought that I would be... but somehow I still managed to get out of bed at the crack of dawn, get some espresso brewed and begin taking care of some correspondences... and doing some reading on my phone. I am unsure if I mentioned it before... but that has pretty much become my routine of late or at least my routine on the days that I do not have something pressing that I want to get done.
I gotta admit here that my body is pretty wretched feeling at this point... and between all the filth, aches, pains, poison ivy, bug bites and sore feet... it is a wonder that I have the motivation to keep doing stuff each day. Sure I have been in plenty of similar scenarios before... but never anything with such sloped, rugged and uneven terrain as this place has and whoa it is wearing on me.
Regardless of all that though... I keep chugging along and although I would love to simply sleep every day all day for about a week... that just is not possible. I guess that you could say that I am 'burning the candle at both ends' with it all... but at least I am eating each day and sticking to my sleep schedule like clockwork.
Anyways, the project that I wanted to work on today was getting my new compost mound covered with the leaves (and a few small sticks) from all the debris left over after I felled that small poplar tree yesterday. I was also hoping to put in a bunch of stakes around the compost and weave the limbs through them like a basket... but I ran out of steam before I got to that point.
It is worth noting that I was intending to begin that phase of things before my nap... but folks across the road began shooting their guns (maybe at that shooting range) just as I laid down and all the racket kept jolting me back awake. Eventually I gave up on sleeping and cooked a bunch of potatoes and some of the squash a neighbor gave me... which yeah made me feel even more lethargic than I was already feeling.
Having basically run out of groceries again a few days ago... and continually trying to stretch the small amount of food that I had as far as it would go... I decided to throw caution to the wind... and get some more groceries delivered. So in my not-so-infinite wisdom... I spent the bulk of the forty-seven dollars that I had left to my name on food instead of saving it for either my phone or electric bill that will be due in another week or two.
Honestly, that three hundred plus dollar veterinarian bill could not have occurred at a worse time and although I did not want to do it I started another Power Down in the hopes that it would help me dig myself out of the financial hole that I am. Heck, I did not even want to do the last Power Down that I did... and watching my precious Hive disappear still leaves me feeling queasy!
Well, I am going to halt myself right there... before I begin feeling dejected or depressed... and wrap this entry up. I truly wish that I had better things to write about... but I am exhausted on so many levels that it is amazing that I have been writing anything at all each day. I hope that everyone is doing well and all that feel good jazz. Ciao.
🏹🔫☕️The surprise badly timed vet bill is all too relatable! Hope your boy dog gets well soon and that you'll be able to find some time for a proper rest! 👻👻
Better things are coming, wait for the mail to get to you.
Ahhh! You are so sneaky Mom! I love you.
But a good sneaky, I love you, too.
