Adventures In Homesteading (Day 23)

Hello Everyone!

Squelching hot, Consistency matters, The dog yard priority, Lots of black locust seedlings, Creating shade & Under a baking sun!

Alright, it has been another squelcher of a day... so I put off doing any writing (in the little tent) until much later in the day... once things had cooled off. I did make an effort to stay on schedule with it all a few hours ago... but wound up taking a much needed nap instead.

It seems like no matter how hard I try nailing down a consistent routine in that regard... there is always some reason to change things around. Maybe soon I can get back into having more consistency with it all... and not have my timing be all over the place.

Last night I fell asleep super early again... and although I awoke before dawn I did not get out of bed until a few hours later... when I realized that my boy dog had slipped out of the tent. After a bunch of walking around and clapping my hands... I eventually found him trotting towards me from pretty far down one of the neighbor's driveways.

For the most part the dogs have all done well not to slip out of the tent like that (even though they always can) and I think that at this point they (and especially my boy dog) are growing bored with the scenario. One of my top priorities is still to get a dog yard build as quickly as I can... but at the moment I am still financially reeling from all the moving expenses.

Anyways, I took a third day in a row as a 'light duty' day today... and feel so much better for having done it... because not only does my body feel much better... but my mind does as well. Heck, I even began spelling things out about the place in an effort to formulate some kind of site assessment... that I can work off of to create my other lists of tasks that need to be done.

Basically, I spent the day hiking around with the measuring tape again... looking over a bunch of the same areas that I have looked at before to set up tents at or build on. At one point I hiked to a corner of the place that I have not explored much... and found a nice little open area that I had not really noticed before... and although it would not be good for camping it might be good for growing trees at.

As far as my black locust seedlings go... it looks like about a third of the seed that I planted have popped up so far... which is not great but not too bad either. Considering that the seeds are a few years old, the dirt came from a gulch... and I have been sprinkling the pots with dirty rainwater... I am just glad that any of them are growing.

Yesterday, I noticed that a few of the seedlings had gotten wilted from the sun... so I took the time to lean a bunch of the cedar sticks that I have been collecting (for sculptures) up against that tree with the other sticks leaning on it. Since it seemed like the pots were getting blasted mainly by the morning light... I did my best to create a lot of shade on that side of things.

Well, I think that I am going to keep this entry short and sweet. I hope that everyone is doing well. Ta ta for now.

I can say this... You are always creative brother. I can understand moving expenses... Not the same situation. But Disability benefits are a joke lol. Of course... I was told I made too much money to qualify for my Veterans Pension... "Thanks for your service". I digress. Here's to hoping you can get your routine nailed down man...

It is a good thing you made shade for the new seedlings any time we grow from seed we keep them in the shade and when we move them to full sun we put a piece of screen or shade cloth over them for 2 weeks.
