Adventures In Homesteading (Day 215-216)

Hello Everyone!

No schedule to keep, Cleaning up the empty can mess, Plugging the tent vent against the winds & Establishing trash service!

Alright, I flailed on writing anything yesterday... mainly because I fell asleep before I could spell things out... but also because I have yet to dial in a new schedule for my writing routine. Maybe I will eventually find some kind of rhythm here... but honestly I am not going to hold my breath on that considering how the place offers me zero peace of mind.

Do not worry, I am not going to launch into too much complaining in this entry... regardless of how much that I feel inclined to do so. Heck, it would also result in a very long post... which is something that I have been avoiding doing as much as possible... so that the gap between 'effort and reward' does not grow so large that it gets under my skin when I think about it all.

Anyways, this morning I woke up a little before two and did not fall back asleep until well after sunrise. All in all, it is quite on par with my recent sleep cycle (or lack thereof) where I nap way more than I am accustomed to doing... and never seem to sleep more than three or four hours at a time when I actually 'go to bed' for the day.

Once I was awake again today (during the afternoon) I finally spent some time cleaning up a bunch of the empty (number ten) food cans that I stacked up outside during that wild five week stint immediately after hurricane Helene hit. As a side note, I actually want to save all those cans... so that I can make bird houses out of them for the small birds that live around here.

Although the mess of all the cans was driving me crazy... the real reason that I bagged them up is because I wanted to use the bags full of them to seal up the 'vent' on the downhill side of my tent that faces west where the wind mainly comes from. The wind itself has been picking up a good bit the last few days... and although the 'vent' has been functioning as intended (to keep the tent from growing stuffy) the stronger winds have been making it work too well!

The only other thing that I accomplished today was to finally get a trash pickup service established... so that I can finally start sending stuff off to the landfill. Considering that there is a transfer station (for trash) not all that far from here... it seems like a total waste... but lacking any transportation getting the trash there just is not possible.

Well on that trashy note... I am going to wrap this entry up. I hope that everyone is doing well. Ta ta for now.

The center of my universe as of late!

I love reading you, your stories remind me of Walden, the book. I think you know 😃

Aww! Thanks. People constantly compare my work to that fella's writings. I still have yet to read his stuff but one day I shall.

I'm sitting here with te window cracked open, amid the echoes of the crunch of boots on crusty snow outside. I was scrolling through some of your posts and saw that you're in TN. I knew your state had the most caves in the US, but had no idea that the number was approaching 10,000 caves making up 20% of the number in the entire country!

Wow.

Don't know if you guys get snow down there, but here in PA, we just got our first thin coat today. I can almost feel the heat from the pic of that burner that you're using, and hope you enjoy a good nights sleep. Even your "trashy" notes contain plenty of character, and make us feel as if we're a fly on the wall watching the shadows from the flames dance along the walls. Best wishes.

I hope your tents can hold up from the snow you might get, idk how close you are to the weather they are calling for Kentucky to get but they are calling for a bad snowstorm for them.

I love the heat coming from your heater, I swear I can feel it. lol
