Adventures In Homesteading (Day 187-188)
Hello Everyone!
Missing the mark, A meandering supply run, When dogs barf, Needing more hikes & Some fencing material!
Alright, I am way off track with my writing routine... and totally missed doing it yesterday altogether... after a long journey to get some much needed supplies. By the time that I got settled in for the evening... and caught up on some relief work... I had already missed my mark by a large margin and decided to forgo even trying to write anything.
In short I finally got away from my place for a few hours... and was fortunate enough to do so around some good folks... which yup were the only folks that I have been around for months now. Getting away for a bit was truly nice and of course cruising around in busy urban traffic was quite the reminder of why I cherish my peace in the woods so much.
Funny thing about that entire supply run is... that I totally flailed on getting a bunch of miscellaneous shopping done... that I could have squeezed in along the way... had I not been feeling so overwhelmed that I spent a bunch of time just sitting in some grass chatting. I also scored a hot shower for myself... and whoa did that make me feel quite the 'new person' afterwards.
Living in the rough is never all that clean of an affair... and this time around the shower scenario has been pretty problematic from the beginning... no matter how well I have made do with the rest of things here. Since it is looking more and more like I am going to be here for the foreseeable future... I may as well get the shower (and on demand water heater) setup dialed in.
This entry is becoming challenging to even make... because I just got interrupted for a good half hour by needing to clean up vomit from my boy dog... which ugh got all over almost everything it seems... but definitely two of the blankets. In the end I cleaned up the mattress the best that I could... and covered the portion that I use with a shower curtain.
Anyways, after all the moving around doing that supply run... I realized just how out of shape that I really am after spending the last few months doing remote relief work. It looks like I need to start getting in a hike or two a day... given how winded that I found myself becoming hauling stuff around... and I did not even wind up getting the full tanks hauled all the way back to the camp until sunset this evening.
There is another cold snap hitting right now... and last night and today were super frigging windy... which is part of why I prolonged hauling the propane tanks downhill. I also got a few rolls of fencing given to me... and I was surprised that they (and all the propane tanks) were still there beside the road nearly a full day later.
I have yet to decide how I am going to use the fencing... but I am feeling inclined to use some of it to make a compost area that the chickens cannot get into. They do pretty good with churning stuff around and all... but I also want the mound to be left undisturbed so that it can remain actively decomposing.
Well, this was not quite the entry that I had hoped to spell out... but I am feeling fatigued and need to still get this all posted. I hope that everyone is doing well.
After reading this post I can realize that you are very busy, but keep up the spirit, have a nice day my brother.
