Featuring Goblin Psychic with Last Stand - Top Battle Analyzing.
Hi, today I'm about to write a post featuring Goblin Psychic from analyzing a top battle from bronze league in modern format and its a 13 mana cap battle.
This battle is between Fredjohnson and BO1003 where BO1003 won the battle.
A little info about the battle:
With Thaddius Brood as summoner, Fredjohnson used three monsters which are: Cursed Windeku, Corpse Fiend, Life Sapper.
And with Scarred Llama Mage as summoner, BO1003 used only two monsters which are: Fungus Fiend and Goblin Psychic.
Battlefield Review - Battle Link
Standard: No modification to the standard gameplay rules and mechanics. |
---|
No modification happened in this battle for the standard ruleset. All monsters of BO1003 lost one health each and only Goblin Psychic lost one magic attack from Fredjohnson's summoners buff. And all monsters of BO1003 got +1 health, last stand and cleanse ability from their own summoner.
Lineup strategy of Fredjohnson
Thaddius Brood | Cursed Windeku | Corpse Fiend | Life Sapper |
---|---|---|---|
Fredjohnson chose this rare monster in level 2 otherwise it wouldn't be able to choose monster in higher level.
This summoner removes one health and one magic attack from all enemy monsters if the enemy monsters has health and magic attack stats greater than one. Both monsters of BO1003 lost one health each and Goblin Psychic is the only magic attacker there with two magic attack and it loses one magic attack as well.
Cursed Windeku is chosen as the tank monster which have two melee attacks. With the melee attack, it has thorns ability which will allow it to do extra attack when it gets melee damage.
This melee attacker from death element has a good portion of health that gives this monster this ability to stay alive for a long time when it keep doing two melee attack every round.
Corpse Fiend is a melee attacker that don't cost any mana so this monster can fit into any lineup as an extra hand when there's no mana left but there's at least one slot going empty.
Being a legendary monster, this monster can't attack from any place other than the first place because its a melee monster so this monster will not attack till it gets to the first place in this battle and eventually it went to the first place but we need to read the rest of the post or watch the battle to know if it got chance of attacking or not.
Fredjohnson used Life Sapper at the third place as the last monster in gold edition. This monster has life leech ability that will increase this monsters health each time it damages an enemy monster's health in proportion to the damage dealt.
So this death monster basically sucks health out of its targets every time it does a damage to the target and as this is a magic monster, every attack should get a successful damage.
Lineup strategy of BO1003
Scarred Llama Mage | Fungus Fiend | Goblin Psychic |
---|---|---|
BO1003 had a tricky lineup strategy there if I hadn't understand it wrong, let's talk about it,
BO1003 did the most tricky thing using this summoner. Scarred Llama Mage is a legendary earth summoner that offers 2 extra health, last stand and cleanse ability all its summoned monsters.
The cleanse ability removes all negative effects on the monster in the first position on the friendly team but this summoner offers this ability to all monsters which should remove negative effect from all monsters if I'm not mistaken. Although this ability didn't come to use as there was no negative effects on any monster.
But its last stand ability should do all the trick if Fungus Fiend dies early and Goblin Psychic becomes the last monster in team. We'll see what happens below.
BO1003 used Fungus Fiend as the main tank which is a melee attacker but having small attack and not so big health. Just like Fredjohnson used Corpse Fiend in an empty spot as an extra hand, BO1003 also used Fungus Fiend in an empty spot which don't cost any mana.
But BO1003 used a different trick that I'm about to talk about soon below.
This Fungus Fiend can be so handy if it gets the chance of doing some attacks but if it don't get the chance then it'd be just an extra hand on the battle as a shield.
As per my investigation,
Two melee of Cursed Windeku + One magic of Life Sapper = Three health deduction of Fungus Fiend.
As Fungus Fiend has the lowest speed than those opponent monsters, these attacks are bound to happen and then Fungus Fiend should get a chance of attacking Cursed Windeku but that should kill Fungus Fiend cause Cursed Windeku is waiting with a thorns attack. But if Goblin Psychic to a tank heal of Fungus Fiend before the Fungus Fiend attacks then it'd live to get damage of one or two more attacks in the next round. But let's see what actually happens in the battle.
BO1003 used the best trick choosing Goblin Psychic in level 3 that has tank heal ability that restores a portion of the monster in the first position's health each round. If this monster becomes the monster in the first position then it will restore a portion of its own health each round which should do the trick on the battle.
Unlike what Goblin Psychic has in level 1 as stats, it has greater stats in level 3. This is a magic attacker with seven health in level 3.
The Battle
Both monsters of BO1003 had the lowest health so Fredjohnson started attacking first and the first attack from Life Sapper landed of course on Fungus Fiend which damaged one health only. Life Sapper got one health by doing this damage using life leech. And the next attack from Cursed Windeku killed the remaining health of Fungus Fiend.
As per my investigation,
Two melee of Cursed Windeku + One magic of Life Sapper = Three health deduction of Fungus Fiend.
What I summed there came out wrong as I summed it before Fungus Fiend lost one health to the summoner's buff of Fredjohnson. As Fungus Fiend had one health less, it already died in the first round after getting the first two hit.
After Goblin Psychic went to the first place and became the last monster left on the team, it got increased stats from last stand ability. It got +1 magic attack, +1 speed and +3 health. And the main trick of BO1003 is coming visible now after this happened.
Goblin Psychic ended this round by damaging two health of the opponent's Cursed Windeku. Then there was a new round where damaging one health of Goblin Psychic, Life Sapper got +1 health. Then Cursed Windeku damaged two health of the opponent monster as well. Goblin Psychic then restored all three damaged health using tank heal ability and then damaged two health of Cursed Windeku which can't be restored.
The same thing kept happening for next three rounds till Goblin Psychic killed Cursed Windeku at the end of round 5. Then Corpse Fiend came forward to the first place and got a chance to damage one health of Goblin Psychic at the end of round 5. Corpse Fiend died at the end of the next round when the magic attack of Goblin Psychic landed on it. Then Life Sapper came forward for the first place when it already gained total extra six health from doing six damages. Now Goblin Psychic will repay those damages at once.
Life Sapper kept damaging one health of Goblin Psychic and kept gaining one health for the damage using life leech. And there Goblin Psychic kept restoring the damaged health using tank heal and kept damaging two health of Life Sapper. This happened for the next eight rounds until Goblin Psychic killed Life Sapper for good at the end of level 14 when Life Sapper came down to its original two health.
So, yeah Goblin Psychic of BO1003 did the last attack and went for victory and the strategy went great.
BO1003 earned a lot of things for winning this battle.
I'll analyze another battle later.
