Winter Ski Family Holiday Year 2 - LOH Contest #143

Authored by @iTravelRox

Hi, Ladies of Hive! It's been a long time since I posted on this community. Now, I'm back. I am so happy to join the contest and share my entry.

Are you fond of traveling? Where was your last family holiday? Share a picture story with a minimum of 5 pictures in which you should be there in at least one of the pictures.

With my username as @itravelrox, obviously, I love traveling. I met my husband while traveling and mentioned where our kids were made while traveling (first born in Bali and second born in Catalunya).

As someone who was born in the Philippines, I've been to Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macau, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Indonesia. It's not that much compared to other travelers but I have achieved staying for one month in a few countries. That for me is an achievement while I traveled in some provinces in the Philippines, as well.

Before I joined Hive, I have my own travel blog with the same username. I was fond of solo traveling and I collaborated with different accommodations and travel agencies to promote them on my blog and social media.

Our Winter Ski Family Holiday in the French Alps

Our First Winter Ski Family Holiday happened last year and blogged here.

Last March 2023, we went to the same place in Saint-Gervais-les-Baines. My husband has been here many times when he was younger. For the second time around, we stayed for ten days. We had more days to ski.

We invited Mamie and Papi again so that they could bond with their grandchildren. But the purpose is to babysit the kids. Hehe! This is the only time my husband can ask his parents to babysit the kids because my husband badly needs to ski and I need to train for the Winter Olympics. Hahaha! I am just kidding. But yes, I need to learn to ski.

On the first blog, I shared a video where I was training in the super beginner slope. The second time around, my husband told me I need to be trained by an instructor. I was terrified. I don't have photos during the training as I was focused. No time for selfies. It's my husband who took pictures of everything.

Behind the scenes of the family photos

My husband was busy setting up the camera so I think it's cool to publish these photos instead. Everything was so candid. And I love the background as you can see the clouds and behind is the Mont Blanc.

Trying to pick up Elise while I was having difficulty with my snow shoes.

SING0030.JPG

LOL, I was struggling.

Here, Alexandre fell so I need him to stand up.

SING0048.JPG

Okay, okay, we were almost ready. I'm loving the candid shots. Hehe!

Training at Saint Nicolas de Veroce Ski Resort

The photos you've seen above and in this photo below were taken at a ski resort in Saint Nicolas de Veroce. My husband dropped me here as this is more of a beginner area which is suitable for me. You can check the video of my first ski experience here.

This area has a different price you can use per day. My husband goes to more professional slopes and a bigger ski resort. This was my little playground for a few days.

You've seen this photo already which I shared in another article. For the first few days, I was training here on the beginner slope. In the photo, what you can see behind me is a chalet and an intermediate slope. I have a video of this intermediate slope. Uh oh!

My husband took some photos.

Full video of Winter Ski 2022

For how many days I was skiing here for 3-4 days in 2022, I became so comfortable here because it was quick and short. Just having fun with glide and slide.

In 2023, time to level up!

Geez! If you only knew how scared I was when I was with an instructor. I got nervous while he taught me the basics. I realized that it became a real deal in the intermediate slope. How many times have I crashed from a higher elevation? My heart was beating faster.

You can see the elevation. My husband insisted to take videos of me. I was hesitant at first. Omg, my nervous laughter but you can see the smile of victory at the end of the video.

Time to go to a bigger playground at Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc

This time around, my husband brought me to his bigger playground. I got more nervous because I was already out of my comfort zone. Of course, it was my first time in this ski resort, and wasn't familiar at all.

IMG_20230313_130400.jpg

This is a funny ride.

IMG_20230313_132318.jpg

My husband treated me to lunch on my first day in the new ski resort. We were waiting for our burger so we took some photos.

Time to ski for real

This is just a one-minute video but the struggle was real. Going down is about 4-5 kilometers. My heart was raising for real. I need to take a break after one minute to rest my legs. Gosh, I was really in pain.

The highest I've been with an Altitude of 1905 meters at Mont Joux

Here's a short video I posted on Youtube, proof that I was at Mont Joux and that I have to ski going down. I don't have uploaded any videos yet.

https://youtube.com/shorts/kBqjE5CUdb4?feature=sharec

Anyway, this is not my video but this is the actual footage of a French skier where he started to ski at Mont Joux. We skied in the same pathway. OMG, what a magnificent view. I couldn't believe that I actually made it to ski in the French Alps.

After the ski session, bonding with the kids

I am thankful to my husband for this wonderful opportunity to travel. And also thankful to the parents-in-law for looking after the kids when the husband and I go skiing for the whole day. The parents-in-law and my husband do the cooking all the time while I need to take care of the kids.

If I answer the first question, it's my husband who is more responsible for our trip from the budget, planning, and booking of our accommodation. Of course, he drives from the Brittany region to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region for 10 hours. To be honest, it's not really easy to travel with kids especially when Alexandre and Elise were still breastfeeding babies. And I think I can create a separate article for this question to share how we actually travel as a family from packing things to road trips.

Yes, I am ready for the Winter Olympics. Philippines Represent! LOL, I am just kidding. Of course, I am excited for the next year's winter ski trip. <3 <3 <3

I hope you enjoyed my entry. Join this week's Ladies of Hive contest #143 initiated by @nainaztengra.

I wish we could try skiing too; that looks so much fun! You're lucky to have in-laws who can look after your kids while you and your husband go on adventures. Wala kasi kami maiwanan ng mga bata hahaha kaya sa mga instances na may age limit or restrictions,e kami ang need mag adjust hahahha

Saint Nicolas de Veroce Ski Resort looks a lovely place, and I like to read that you can ski. I find it a very difficult and a dangerous sport. You have shared very beautiful pictures of your holiday. This time when I was planning my trip to the Swiss I was thinking of doing Saint Gervais, but then it did not fit very well in the itinerary so had to drop it. Probably next time.
And I must say you have covered quite a few places in Asia and some of the best ones

Indeed, winter skiing is a difficult and dangerous sport. A person needs to be physically, mentally, and emotionally ready for this kind of sport.

Oh wauw! the mont blanc lookes very beautifull, in snow as well as in summertimes, i have never been to the mont blanc, but i have seen it many times on my tv when the tour de France is passing it. When we visit France, many many years ago, we where visiting Nice, Cannes, Saint Tropez and also went to see Monaco, and the beautifull mountains of the Gorges du Verdon.

I just saw Gorges du Verdon on TV and I am very interested in going there. Those places you mentioned are expensive places. hehe! Hopefully, when I have work and save money, I'll visit all these places you mentioned.
