The Beautiful Late Autumn at Meiji Jingu Inner Garden in Tokyo
Hi, Worldmappin community! This is the continuation of my Japan trip. I may consider this as my second entry of my #winterchallenge (but it was autumn) in this community if possible. XD
It was the last day of November 2015 when this trip happened and I had the chance to enjoy the beauty of late autumn in Tokyo.
Another relaxing day in Tokyo as a solo traveler. The cold really bothered me to be honest. I was freezing even though it wasn't below 10 degrees Celsius. I made sure I wore three layers of clothing to keep me warm.
Welcome to Meiji Jingu
I took a train from Shinjuku to Shibuya to visit a Shinto shrine named Meiji Jingu. I was there last spring/summer but good to visit in the cold season.
You can see that Japanese people and other visitors wear neutral colors of their winter jackets. But there I was wearing my pink fuchsia jacket. Hahaha! I so love pink.
Meiji Jingu has 70 hectares of forest in the middle of the huge city of Tokyo. There are so many things to do around Meiji Jingu but I chose to see the garden. I remember I paid something to see the garden but I forgot the price.
It's good to take photos of information about the places I visited. Here is the Tea House or Kakuun-Tei. Reads as:
The former building of Kakuun-tei was built by the order of His Majesty the Emperor Meiji for her Majesty the Empress Shoken in 1900. As the building was burnt down by the war damage, so in the autumn of 1958 the present building was reconstructed.
That feeling that a time warp brought me to the old dynasty of Japan.
Of course, a selfie, or it never happened. XD
Part of me wants to experience drinking tea inside the tea house to feel the Japanese culture but there are so many things to see. I just wanted to stay and live in Japan to immerse myself in this zen feeling.
My dream is to have a zen house and live a minimalist life.
Another selfie because the colors of beautiful autumn leaves were popping in front of my eyes.
I brought a tripod with me and I enjoyed the beautiful colors of autumn behind me.
I continued my autumn walk and found a nice background to take photos with.
I just couldn't help but take photos of the tea house because I really want my future house to be built like that in the middle of the forest. Yes, there is a nipa hut in the Philippines but I want the Japanese house feel.
The Inner Garden
This inner garden was commissioned by Emperor Meiji for Empress Shoken. Oh, wow, so lucky this Empress. I enjoyed walking in the garden and considered myself a princess. LOL
Maple leaves turning red and yellow.
Part of me was jealous as I saw a couple walking together. LOL
But let me enjoy taking photos of them.
Japanese walked together. I felt that if I walked with a friend, there was a chance we were so noisy together. Filipinos love to laugh together.
Somehow, I appreciated the walk alone.
And bam! Japanese maples in late autumn blasted me with a magnificent surprise.
The Gazebo
Flowers such as Irises should bloom in June and so as the Azaleas bloom in springtime. These empty garden lots are the flowers should be.
Kiyomasa-Ido (Well)
The Kiyomasa-Ido Well was first belonged to Lord Kiyomasa Kato during Edo period. This well is the fountainhead of Nan-Chi (South pond) and the pure water gushes out in a steady flow all the year round. This well is famous for the ingenious way of sinking and the superiority of water's quality.
I waited for the girls to finish their viewing.
Indeed, the water was very clear in this well. Better observe cleanliness and avoid littering in Japan.
I was at the end of my autumn walk and just followed the girls.
Exit to see the Gingko Trees
I was happy to see the Gingko trees, I love the yellow colors. I took a selfie how happy I was.
I heard there was an avenue of Gingko trees somewhere but I am sure this is not the place.
One couple took photos of me when they saw me taking a selfie. Hahaha!
I hope you enjoyed my late autumn walk in Tokyo.

This looks like an absolutely beautiful place to go for a stroll! Thank you for all the pictures so we can almost go on the walk with you.
Yes, it was indeed a beautiful walk. Japanese people are so lucky to have Shinto shrines around.
"Japanese people are so lucky to have Shinto shrines around." As a white guy from the US, I agree! I haven't talked with anyone from over there, but I assume most people probably take them for granted. Shinto's connection to nature feels like something so many people could benefit from if they took the time for it.
The Japanese government did its best to restore and maintain its historical architecture and culture. It's beautiful to have shrines in the middle of nature/forest. Zen feeling.
