Sunrise and Sunset Photos I Captured in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Thailand | ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #108
Hi, ASEAN Hive community friends!
I am so glad to join this week's challenge as I am showcasing my sunrise and sunset photos in 3 countries: Myanmar, Cambodia, and Thailand. Why 3 countries? In 2018, I went to Myanmar (28 days in different provinces), Cambodia (one week in Siem Reap), and Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket in 3 months) in a total of 4 months just by booking a one-way ticket from the Philippines that was really cheap.
I flew into Yangon, Myanmar in September 2018. From Yangon, I flew to Bangkok, Thailand in October 2018. From Bangkok, I did a border run crossing to Siem Reap, Cambodia in November 2018. And I spent my time in Phuket, Thailand from November 2018 to January 2019. Finally, I returned to the Philippines in January 2019.
Sunrise in Bagan, Myanmar
One of the things to do in Bagan is to wake up early and watch the sunrise in Bagan. Several ancient temples in Old Bagan consists of over 10,000 temples.
You can rent an e-bike scooter style as it is really convenient to drive on your own. Before, we went up to one of the temples but I found that the temples we were on to were already fragile. Later on, I read the news that foreigners are no longer allowed to go up to the temples to watch the sunrise.
Bagan (Burmese: ပုဂံ; MLCTS: pu.gam, IPA: [bəɡàɰ̃]; formerly Pagan) is an ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar.[1]

Sunrise at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia
Visiting Angkor Wat is a must and it is really huge that you need 2-3 days to visit the whole temple complex. For one day, it is worth US $37 but I think the price has been changed in the present times.
You can rent a bike here to see Angkor Wat but you can also rent a tuk-tuk driver to drive you around.
Wake up early to see the sunrise. I remember I was too tired for the tour because I was at Pub Street getting drunk. Hahaha! So, please do get drunk after the Angkor Wat tour.
The Angkor area was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. It is regarded as one of the best examples of Khmer architecture and a symbol of Cambodia, depicted as a part of the Cambodian national flag. The Angkor Wat is a major tourist attraction and attracts more than 2.5 million visitors every year.

Sunset in Phuket, Thailand
Are you tired of temple hopping for more than a month already? Oh well, it's time to hit the beach in Phuket, Thailand. This was the time I unexpectedly met my husband in 2018 after my trip from Myanmar.
You can read our love story here:
A Fantasy or Reality? James Bond Kidnapped Me in Phuket, Thailand
We also visited temples here but not as much as I did in Myanmar and Cambodia because I got tired of seeing them for more than a month.
We went to different beaches in Phuket and we witnessed various sunsets there. But this is the best sunset photo I took ever that's why I chose this among my sunset photos in Phuket.

Thank you so much ASEAN Hive for this week's challenge as I got the chance to reminisce about my 4 months of backpacking trip to 3 countries in 2018. I hope you enjoyed all the sunrise and sunset photos as much as I did.

Bagan looks so beautiful! I haven't check the updated situation over there but if it's already open for tourist, i'd love to go.
I've heard some areas are open for tourists but not the further provinces. However several travelers are boycotting to visit Myanmar for political reasons.
I can imagine! well, I mean the war escalated recently too esp with the govt started loosing on some battlefronts but still, Myanmmar is on my wish list.
Yes, it's such a memorable country for me like a time capsule brought me back 100 years ago.

Ayo Ayo kanunay!
You sure have traveled a lot in Southeast Asia, some really beautiful locations too. I worked in Siem Reap for nearly three years before I had time and funds to visit Angkor Wat, haha. I have a friend now living in Phuket, but have never had time to visit him, but he loves it and doesn't want to leave.
Haha yeah I find Angkor Wat expensive, when I was there, everything I spent there was in US dollars. I can withdraw money from the ATM in US dollars. haha.
