The Art of Enjoying Espresso - The Most Tricky Coffee Menu at the Coffee Shop
I want to start my post on Cinammon Cup Coffee Community with one fact about my country, Indonesia. My country, is one of the largest coffee exporting countries in the world, both for Arabica and Robusta. According to the latest statistical data, Indonesia ranks fourth, firstly Brazil (almost 50% of coffee production in the world), Vietnam (the largest robusta coffee production in the world), Colombia and Indonesia, and several African, South American and Central American countries as producers. other. One fact above, there is no Europe and the United States as a coffee producer.
Unfortunately, since the beginning of coffee being grown in Indonesia through Dutch colonialism, the high coffee production in Indonesia has not been optimally absorbed by the Indonesian market, and the majority of coffee production will be exported abroad. This is indeed natural if you look at the history of coffee drinkers in Indonesia. Looking at history, coffee drinkers in Indonesia are dominated by the working class of farmers, the elderly, and laborers.
You will not find young people and teenagers who drink coffee, at that time coffee was just the drink of the grandparents. The coffee that was drunk in that era was also of very low quality, that is, graded coffee which, when roasted, was mixed with corn and rice, so the price was cheap. What about the taste of the coffee? don't ask, the sugar and sweetened condensed milk make it drinkable and if you try to taste it without sugar and/or creamer, I guarantee you will throw up.
However, since the start of the second wave of coffee in Indonesia, which was marked by the emergence of Starbucks and several other coffee shops, and then entered the third wave of coffee in Indonesia with the emergence of coffee shops and coffee drinkers who really care about the originality of coffee, specialty coffee and also the taste of coffee, this has made coffee began to gain a place on the Indonesian table. Coffee is also often ordered in restaurants, coffee shops and cafes, although the ratio of coffee and non-coffee orders is still 1:3, but that's a good thing.
Second Wave Coffee has made a big change to the dogma of the Indonesian people for the way coffee is served and brewed. In the past, we only knew how to brew coffee in two ways. Coffee is made by boiling and cooking with hot water, or brewing coffee directly with hot water. However, modern coffee shops create new insights into coffee brewing, various menus with western names that are brewed with modern machines add variety to the menu and Indonesian people's knowledge of coffee as a beverage product, one of the most popular dishes we find is espresso.
Espresso – The Most Tricky Coffee Menu at the Coffee Shop
Conceptually, espresso is a drink made from the results of steeping coffee in a special way. To get espresso, freshly ground coffee beans are then sprayed with hot water under high pressure. One cup of espresso is only about 30-50 ml, very small. I once filled a coffee stand, one of the coffee fairs in my city. At that time, an Italian tourist with an English accent italian stopped by our booth and from that story, he boasted about the tradition of drinking espresso in his country, and about how Italians who do not have coffee plantations have a classy and sacred tradition of drinking coffee.
For ordinary Indonesians, and this is the first time coming to a coffee shop. Espresso can be one of the most tricky menus on all the menu lists. When we first come to a modern coffee shop (which uses an espresso machine), we often look at the menu and are a little confused about what to order. Some people just came to the coffee shop for the first time, wanting to take beautiful pictures to upload on social media. Because the goal is not to drink coffee, some people come to coffee shops looking for the cheapest menu of all menus and will definitely order espresso.
Unfortunately, when the coffee came to the table, it was only a very small cup of coffee that seemed to be drinkable in one gulp and irritated us. At first, we wanted to drink but after trying it for the first time, the bitter taste was unbearable and became more irritated. It seems that this experience has almost happened to all Indonesians who have ordered espresso because of the origin of the message.
I once told a story about the failure of a date in my youth that failed because of this cup of espresso. I've also seen my friend put a cup of espresso into 600 ml bottled mineral water to neutralize the bitterness. You need to know, Indonesian people really like sweet taste. When you come to a restaurant or café, try ordering a cup of tea for sure you will get sweet tea.
Some people, maybe traumatized when trying espresso but I still enjoy it even though I don't enjoy it with "Italian style", I enjoy espresso in my own way. Moreover, when the coffee shop is able to serve a cup of quality espresso, with a taste that is not too bitter and does not make the heart flutter, that is my favorite espresso flavor.
One of the things that makes me enjoy drinking espresso is because I often see movie scenes of actors drinking espresso. The espresso absorbing scene always looks cool, the actors become more handsome and the drama moments come alive. Moreover, when the mafia scene looks cooler. I gave it an espresso drink and imagined it. But I realized, no matter how good my pose drinking espresso will not look cool. I'm just like a teddy bear drinking coffee, looks cute and adorable.
Call me Isdarmady, because I have a full name that is very long, namely Isdarmady Syahputra Ritonga. I am a head of the family who work as Farmers Vegetables Hydroponic and Consultant Hydroponics, sometimes I also sell coffee from various regions in Indonesia.

Mixing the coffee with corn and rice when it was roasted back in the day sounds odd. That doesn't sound very good at all.
That's absolutely true, but in fact it happened that way. We know it by the term coffee corn, the price is still very cheap and until now it can still be found in traditional markets in Indonesia.
I suffered from GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) in my teens and even hospitalized, maybe because I drank coffee like this and instant coffee. After I changed my coffee and coffee habits, I never went to the hospital again
thank you for stopping by @leaky20
I'm glad it got better and went away after switching to better quality coffee. Sounds like a good decision for sure
It was an important decision in my life. I get a much better taste of coffee, and I'm still healthy. ha ha
Oh yeah, espresso! I also love that but only few coffee shops offer it here since latte is always the best seller.
hello @ayane-chan thank you for stopping by
the same as in my country, coffee latte and coffee milk are the most favorite menus and are often taken away by customers. However, we can only drink espresso in coffee shops.

Very good and interesting story, I know that the best coffee is produced in the areas of Ecuador, that is why we will never see Europe or the United States as good coffee producers.
Bro the pictures are amazing, I like how you portray the art in the cup :D
hello @fabian98 thank you for stopping by, I am very happy when my story is found to be interesting for other people.
Yup, that's because coffee can only grow optimally in the mountains of tropical countries. I've tried coffee from Ecuador and it tastes very different and more complex than coffee in my country, but I like all coffee, as long as it's coffee from the farmer.
thank you very much bro..
