Hello everyone and all members of Hive Garden Community, how are you friends today? I've been coughing for a week and it doesn't go away, I hope all of you are always given health, happiness and patience in this life. I'm back again to participate in this community to provide information and posts about hydroponics and also updates about my hydroponic garden.

This morning, I visited one of the houses that had ordered hydroponic installations from me. The hydroponic installation is very special, because it is made above the fish pond of the house. Hydroponic enthusiasts usually call it aquaponic.

Knowing Aquaponics

Have you ever heard of aquaponics or aquaculture? Or are you familiar with it? Aquaponics is a farming system that is very suitable and appropriate for gardeners who have a pond and want to take advantage of a narrow space. Aquaponics comes from the words "Aquaculture" and "Hydroponics".

Aquaculture is a fish farming system and hydroponics is an agricultural system that does not use land but uses water. So, Aquaponics is an agricultural system that utilizes circulating water from fish ponds for hydroponics, with this system we can benefit from fish and vegetables from hydroponic installations.

Aquaponics is popular and a trend for many people. As you can see in this photo, aquaponics is a very beautiful garden decoration with fish in the pond. One of the misconceptions in the aquaponics system is about the use of fish manure as a source of nutrition. From my experience, fish manure in ponds can't be a nutrient for vegetables because ammonia levels are too high and vegetables will fail to thrive.

I've made several orders for Aquaponics, I always use two media to make a filter so that the dirt is filtered and the water circulates properly. For the example photo above, the filter uses two two-liter paint cans. The use of a filter, can convert the ammonia in the feces into nitrite which is needed for vegetables, usually I use a bioball which can also be a medium for growing bacteria that is beneficial for the development of vegetables. I also still use nutrition but with lower levels around 600-800 ppm, some vegetables that are ideal for aquaponics such as kale, mint leaves, lettuce or mustard greens.

Update My Hydroponic Garden

I have started sowing a few hundred seedlings to repopulate my hydroponic garden. I planted the pakcoy seeds first last week. Seedling growth is very good and grows uniformly. It seems, the new seeds that I bought are very good quality. Unlike the vegetable seeds I bought two months ago which did not grow well. This seed selection is very dilemmatic for farmers, we can only know the quality of good seeds after we try to sow them.

The seeds that I have planted have grown to about three leaves, I plan to transplant these seeds next week. I have prepared the equipment and have also cleaned all the netpots that I have with the aim of this planting period being better than the previous one.

The condition of the mint leaves in my hydroponic installation has also started to grow lushly and is also ready to be harvested. The electrical connection in this hydroponic installation was broken a few days ago and I only realized after two days the water pump was not working because of that. Thankfully, there was no damage to the mint leaves and I've handled everything well. Electrical damage often occurs if we use an electric pump to circulate the hydroponic installation, we must frequently check to anticipate it.

I harvested about 500 grams of mint leaves this morning, and I packed them in small packages like the photo above. Mint leaves are the plant product that I sell most often and are also very profitable for me.

Okay gardeners, this is my story this time. Fighting for all my friends.

Looking forward to seeing how you go with the aquaponics.

@ligayagardener, have you met isdarmady yet? I often think of your back garden when I read his posts.

thank you for stopping by..
I am not an expert, I only studied self-taught and discussed with friends who had started hydroponics first.

Maybe, I'm just consistent and don't get bored easily. ha ha

We have aquaponic 2 systems, one with 6 expanded clay media beds. The other is a split system with one media bed and one floating raft bed. We also have a Kratky hydro setup with 25 buckets.

I'm a convert!

Wow, so cool. I'm curious to see it. Hopefully all our plants grow well and there will be no problems until harvest.
