African Pounded Yam.

Hello everyone!!

When it comes to meals, I guess no one can say I have eaten 90% of the food in the world. Just within our local environments, you still see meals that may prompt questions like, "Where did you learn how to prepare this food?" But the answer most of the time is, I just thought of trying this out. Meals have standards, and they are also linked to physical standards. Because of these standards, some meals can't be eaten by some people based on their financial state.

It is more common to see wealthy homes eating most of their good-looking and presentable meals. The secret here isn't in the way it looks but in the taste. The reason why I am saying this is because most of our African meals, specifically Nigerian meals, can be unpresentable but the taste can make you eat more than expected.

Today I was told to prepare pounded yam for the house. Being the kind of person who preparing food most of the time doesn't come with any form of joy at the process, I did it because I had no other alternative. Seeing it necessary to share with my hive friends, I got pictures for the sole reason.

Cooking pounded is not hard, it only requires a few simple steps, which will be outlined .

1. The pealing and washing

process.

This requires taking off the peals, exposing the main yam. Because of the sand constituents found in the peals and other components, it is not good for human consumption. Speaking of human consumption, the peals from this yam are another major food source for goats. I kept the peals for that reason.

2. Boiling.

This one requires some time, like 15-30 minutes depending on the kind of heat and yam. In cases where one is not conscious, if the yam has boiled in its normal range, it can cause the yam to be too soft, making it not good for pounding.

Another thing that may cause the yam to spoil is the addition of salt. While boiling the yam, it is advisable not to add salt.

3. Pounding of the yam.

This is the final stage which also requires manpower. Though machines have been designed to carry out this task, in some localities it has not reached there yet.

Materials involved if it's through manpower.

-Mortar and pestle.

After proper pounding, your swallow is ready.
