It's been quite a day for a Sabbath! We got everything prepared and had a wonderful dinner. We read the entire Torah portion (Phinehas) and went to bed.

When we woke up, my son Daniel was outside the bathroom door, wanting to visit the kitten which was rescued on Thursday.

Daniel visited with the kitten for about 15 minutes, but because we didn't have a proper liter for her and she is too young to be trained, she wet on a towel, making the room smell very strongly of cat pee.

We had already decided we can't have a kitty (which made the children very sad) but that their aunt would take care of her until a home was found. Daniel has shown to be very allergic to cats and we just discovered very alergic to cat urine.

After Daniel spent some time in the (smelly) bathroom, he began to show some serious signs of a reaction. We had already agreed we would meet for Shabbat and I didn't recognize how serious Daniel's reaction was. We drove just a few minutes away to the assembly, and right away we could see Daniel needed some help.

Lauren took him for a walk to get some air, but he was showing signs of low oxygen. Lauren drove him back home and treated Daniel with the nebulizer and oxygen. Once he laid down and relaxed he began to recover, but was very sleepy and swollen.

Thankfully, it didn't require an emergency room visit, but this alerted us to the severity that he is allergic to cats. We are sad to see the cute little kitty go, but given the circumstances, it had to be.

My oldest three were in tears when their Aunt drove away with the little kitten, but we know that she will be well taken care of and that Daniel would be healthy.

Lesson learned!
