We Are Alive! December 18th, 2024 Chess

After diner, my wife and I were having a conversation and out of the blue she suggested we should play chess. Actually, she wondered if after all the political discussions and strategies, if exercising her brain like that has improved her chess game.

In 13 years of marriage, we haven't played a lot of chess. Hardly any at all. And every time we did play, I won handily. I didn't let this moment pass us buy. After wondering if her chess strategies has improved, I got the board out and set it up.

"Let's find out!" I said with a grin.

We played three games and we made an observation - whereas I did win all three times, they were NOT easy victories. There were several moments where it looked like she might win. This is a big change from when we played years ago, where it was hardly a contest.

The following evening, we played again. And she won! We both came to the conclusion that either my skill at the game has declined since we last played, or her skill has increased!

I demanded we play again and it ended with a stalemate.

Given how careful I was in my strategy to win, my conclusion is that her skill (or ability to strategize) has in fact increased!

Goes to show that strategy is strategy. Whether in discussing politics online or playing chess, it's the same mental muscle that is used.

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

You or your wife can create an account in chess.com or lichess.com. Nowadays, it's easy to find somebody to play with unlike before you have to go to chessclub to get an opponent equal your skill level.

You have made me think of the chess games I sometimes have with my wife, and I tell you as always the Queen, she always wins, no matter what, she always wins.

Great to see you two enjoying playing chess and that your wife is improving on strategical thinking.

I used to be quite decent at chess too, but I haven't played for a long time now.
