The Story of Mordechai and Esther, Ahasuarus and Haman (Booo!)
This is an interpretive work based on the septuagent (expanded) version of the story of Esther. There are some spelling changes, just because, and some creative license.... just because. If you don't like the changes, read the original.
I hope this honors the Name of the Most High. This is part one of... who knows how many parts. Enjoy!
THE DREAM
Once upon a time, long ago in the city of Susa, there a man name MORDECAI, he was of the tribe of Benjamin and he had a dream:
It was dark, noisy with thunder and earthquakes upon the earth. Two beasts came together ready to fight. The nations prepared to destroy the people of God. Then the people cried out to God and water from a little spring came forth and became a great river. The sun came out and the lowly were exulted over the nobles.
THE BANQUET OF THE KING
The king of Susa (his name is Akav-sheriff) held a great feast. You know that guy who controlled the whole earth? 127 provinces from India to Ethiopia? Yeah, that guy. This feast was really spectacular. There was lots of good food there. Like pomegranates, slow-cooked beef, lamb, wine and apples and grapes and sweet pastries made with honey. And maybe even some hamantaschen.
Speaking of hamantaschens, I see a triangle hat… and in the hat is the head of a man named Haman (boooo!). He was an Agagite, from the Amalekites (may their name be blotted out). He was totally full of himself. He also didn’t like MORDECAI, or the Israelites, but we’ll get to that later.
So this banquet, it was really fun. It went on for days. People drank a whole bunch. It was to honor all the nobles of the kingdom (Did I mention the 127 provinces? From India to Ethiopia?) and there was lots of eating and drinking and partying. And after the big party, Akav-sheriff made Haman (booo!) his trusted advisor. Why he did this, we’ll never know. Maybe because the king drank too much wine.
The king made a rule that everyone should drink as much as they want, but couldn’t force anyone to drink too much. I don’t know exactly how that rule worked. Akav-sheriff liked rules.
Even drinking rules.
THE QUEEN
At the end of the feast, the king called his queen (her name is Vashti) to show off her beauty to his guest, but she would NOT come. Ut-oh. That was against his rules. So the king decided he needed a new queen, one that would not break his rules. And she had to be very beautiful. Very beautiful. So he held a beauty pageant and the girl who won was Hadassah (they called her Ester). It just so happened that Ester was the adopted daughter of MORDECAI. I don’t think that was a coincidence. Just saying.
Queen Ester was very beautiful. She wore the most stunning dresses and gold jewelry. Her skin was soft and young looking, her hair almost glowed in the sunlight. When people saw her, she literally took their breath away because she was so pretty. And shapely too. That girl could afford to eat more hamantashens.
Ester was also very good at not breaking the king’s rules.
To be continued... now that our characters are established, let's get on to the story in the next part coming up.

Howdy sir ironshield! Yay! Another great Old Testament story! Actually I saw that you started these last week and have been trying to find time to get to it.
Now, what are hamantashens?
There's a tradition for Purim to make triangle shaped cookies, since it was supposed that Haman wore a triangle hat. "hamantashens" means Haman's Hat.
Oh I get it! Thanks, I'll take some of those cookies in my salute to Haman's defeat!
