Adventures at the Grocery Store: The Locusts Have Come

(Empty Shelves)

Our Pantry is Looking Good...

But we wanted to take this opportunity to learn about what people buy when they are spooked.

(besides water and tp)

Pasta is a hot item right now.

Junk food sells out

Canned food, especially fruit

Rice a Roni... a quarantined treat

Nobody's buying eggs at $3 a dozen

Imitation maple syrup to go with your pasta and rice-a-roni

Apples sauce and fruit. That must be why the TP run

Clean out the oatmeal

Bleach is selling out

A typical cart: TP, laundry detergent, pasta, pretzels

The line is all the way to the back of the store, about a 45 minute wait.

Pallets of water along the way

Pallets of canned food, not so popular

Interesting Experience

I've always found supermarket marketing interesting. The store assumed TP, canned food and water, eggs, bread and milk would be hot items and sold out of most of these items. They didn't anticipate fruit to be such a hit. The people preferred cleaners over eggs and canned veggies.

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations. Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

Crazy stuff!
Supermarkets are quiet and full of produce in Tel Aviv, but online orders take a lot longer than usual and more things are missing than usual.
I was able to pick up all the missing items at the supermarket itself and didn't have to queue at all.
I do have 2 major supermarkets and dozens of min-marts within a 5 minute walk so maybe people in Tel Aviv aren't so stressed about access to food.
Israel is self sufficient in food (except for salmon).

Good to have supermarkets within walking distance and self sufficient. Like an oasis in the desert!

Haha! Love the humor! Observing people’s behavior can be very interesting/entertaining. As for the eggs, we have the same brand eggs at our grocery store..89¢ a dozen. They must be hotter item in this area? And a 45 minute wait? It’s like the grocery store’s version of Black Friday. I hope you weren’t buying ice cream.

We didn't actually NEED to go the grocery store, but we wanted to know what it was like as a learning experience. I wonder how the icecream was doing, didn't think to check!

Glad to see that word "full". Store around here that are normally 24/7 are limiting their hours to recover overnight.

Thats really interesting, to me it seems like there will be no food problem here in Denmark, but we never know... I guess US is more extreme then Denmark... I got the sense that not many people are seriously prepping here, and you imply that they are in US, so I miss something?

There are a lot of preppers here in the US, but also a lot of "late" preppers, all those who know they should be stocked up but haven't.

I can imagine. I don't think there are many preppers here in Denmark, but I could be wrong. It seemed like people suddenly prepped for 1-2 days and then went back to normal.

I encourage people to stock up especially on dry oats, grains, rice, wheat, etc, and consider selling and sharing and bartering and donating as they please as supply chains break globally especially before May of 2020 as some are saying that we have several weeks left before supply chains begin running out to the extent new supply chains do not rise up before May to compensate enough.

About the same here in Illinois, I went to Costco last week and impressed with how destroyed it looked in there. Don't worry...I got my TP from there a couple of weeks ago! HAHA!!

How were the "outside" aisles? How was the fresh veg and fruit sections?

The fresh veggies were still in stock at the time, but we're hearing they're selling out today. We stocked up on TP early also, didn't realize it would become such a thing!

Yeah me either...it was just on the list of things I normally get!
Have they shut down your city? Here schools are closed and started tomorrow no more dine in for restaurants as well. All large gatherings and events have been canceled too. All of this is to last through the end of the month!

Yes it's been nuts. We went to Walmart today and they are still totally out of any type of cleaning supplies and the TP and paper towel isles were completely empty still. I thought they'd be able to restock by now.

We heard that the Dollar General stores still had everything because people only go to the big box stores so we went over there and they were out of all TP and any type of cleaning supplies too except they did have ammonia.
