Canoe Fishing at the Fishing Harbor
Hello everyone, and have a nice day.
Today, I will share a story and some interesting pictures that I took from the Lampulo Ocean Fishing Port located in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. As the name implies, this port is used by large vessels with operational areas around the Indian Ocean. It is easy to find large ships of various colors and sizes in this place. However, what caught my attention was a canoe used by an old man around the large ships.
The boat is made of wood and metal, and the paint is chipping off, making it look a bit old. Using the optical zoom from the camera, I can clearly see a paint barrel behind him. In this case, it is usually used as a container to store the fish caught. His fishing gear is a net, leading me to assume that his catch likely consists of small fish that usually inhabit the relatively calm waters of this harbor.
It was actually quite windy this afternoon, but due to the water breaker around the harbor, the waves broke before reaching the harbor area, making the water body look very calm like a pond. I spent quite a long time observing this fisherman, during which time, he also moved from one place to another while spreading the net. After some time, if no fish were caught, he would pull back the net, tidy it up, and then move to another place to spread the net again in the hope of catching fish.
After casting the net, he will usually look at the water body, gaze into it, and see if there are any fish caught in the net he has just cast. If he sees any fish in it, he will quickly pull back the net and put the fish into the paint barrel I mentioned earlier.
While tidying up the net he had just lifted, the fisherman occasionally swept his gaze to the surrounding environment. Perhaps it was a relaxation for him, after devoting his focus to casting and then tidying up the equipment he used to catch fish.
I think I spent more than 15 minutes watching the fishermen doing canoe fishing using the fishing net. As the sun was starting to sink in and it was getting darker, I decided to finish the observation and drive back. That's all the short story and some photos I can share. Please let me know what you think about this. Thank you and see you next time.
